It had been at PR5 for over a year, but since the last update it's been at PR0 and my traffic has dropped by a factor of 10. Please help me figure this out. Thanks.

I have strong feel that google panda algorithm affected your site PR. Recently google has update his Panda algorithm for prevent spam and duplicate content. You should review your site and identify what is problem in site.

You most likely don't have enough quality backlinks, and lost a large amount of high PR do follow backlinks.

At first check the status of your backlinks. I think there may be a significant change. If so then rebuild those backlinks. Then concentrate on the quality of articles. After the Google panda update it is very important. Good quality, unique, original, error free and useful article will help you getting back your site to its previous position.

is your site indexed still? If you google your domain does it show up? Google penalized you, could be for a number of reasons. What is the website in question? If you use yahoo site explorer and google webmaster tools, did you loose backlinks? Have you been creating links using blackhat method? one cannot come to a reaonable conclusion we need more information as there are too many variables involved. going from PR5 to PR0 you did something very, very wrong and google penalized you and you're pretty much screwed any way you look at it and may be better off starting fresh instead of salvaging a damaged and penalized domain. But give it a week to see if it bounces back and your site isnt dancing. Also look to make sure you have no canonical errors, review www.mattcutts.com/blog/seo-advice-url-canonicalization/ if you dont know what that is. Good luck!

Hi there. Search engines especially google value more the quality of your content. So to keep your good ranking it would be better if you regularly update your content. Write more interesting article for your readers. In this way, your readers will wait for your next update. Also, try using social networking site as another way to promote your site.

As mentioned, you must maintain your SEO. You have to constantly build backlinks and check if the link exchanges you did are still there. Also, if you're involved in any black hat SEO, you might have been blacklisted.

If PR5 to PR0, it is matter of linking with some spam sites. Google has penalized you. It may happen that some back links are not regular submissions. It may delete after sometime. Thus loosing PR.

Check backlinks to know if its reduced or any specific changes done during the time pr started falling.

You should acquire tools that identify your website's broken backlinks.
That way, if someone is nasty enough to remove a good link that you got a while back,
You could be alarmed about it.

One good link breaking can cause unimaginable damage to your rankings.

As for your PR decreasing, you must have been affected by the Google penguin update.
if you wanted to show us your website, we could identify the problem.

My guess - low quality backlinks and content.
