Why is my site so big??

I am moving my site to another server. The size of the site is just ridiculous, almost 1gb! Is there some way I can check the sizes of all my folders and files to see what can be causing this?

    you can run:

    cd /
    du -a | sort -nr | head -100 | more

du -a looks at all files and prints sizes
sort -nr sorts them in reverse numeric order (largest first)

Which control panel are you using?

Also check on old stats file, at times urchin old stats takes major space.

More info on your hosting environment could help to throw some light.

BTW: Are you hosted on your own server or you have taken some shared space on server.

I have cpanel on my own vps.

I am almost surethat the log files are the ones causing this, but I would like to have an option to see the size of all the files instead of having to browse around all over my folders checking them

    frontpage extensions?

they can double the size of your site on your host..... apparently

as they write a vti_cnf blah blah file for each file you upload...

    something like that...

just a guess but you are probably running FP extensions, ?

Log files are always a thing to check; but FP extensions will double the size of your site. All those _vti folders are the extensions: most of em have duplicated your pages and extensions inside.

In your cPanel there is a link for "Disk Usage Viewer"

This would help you to identify which folder is eating up the space.

Do remember, you have to check space taken by SQL seperately.

Yes, I have FP entensions, so that must be it.

Any solution for this? Any files or folders I can safely delete? (and please don't give me the classic lame reply 'don't use Frontpage') :D

    Don't use Frontpage.....<ducks>

Seriously; unless you do not use FP for publishing; or *any* of the webbots; then you can delete those files. But if you use any component/webbot; then you cannot delete the files, as Frontpage requires them. Only thing you can do is quit using Frontpage if you don't want the bulk..

To work on my site, I can't connect to it and publish new pages if I don't install the extensions
