- After reading an article on Microsoft’s new SEO offering I sat back and thought; why on earth would a software giant like Microsoft want to offer SEO? The profit off of the two packages alone is meager to such a large company, so what do they have to gain. It’s really quite obvious when you think about it, other then reading about other professional’s successes and failures. How do we (SEO’s in general) really understand what Google is doing? Well, we test and measure data and tweak and build until we reach our desired goal right? Well if you had a large amount of sites say 20,000, that you continually monitor and collect data on and measure the rise and fall in rankings based on changes you make, you can start to draw a pretty vivid picture of what Google is up to right? This is exactly what Microsoft is doing. Building a large collection of sites to gather data so they can start to decode the algorithm Google has held so secretly. This is the article here- What do you think?
If msn is offering seo services, then thats a conflict of interest and thast a huge turn off to most seo's and that will make even more people go over to the google side of things.
I think you misunderstood one thing: MS buy YAHOO is not for SEO, it is for traffic. Traffic == $. YAHOO is not a search engine company. It uses others search results. Some years ago, it uses google's results, now it uses ....(I forget the name). The more people use google, the more possible google can define what customers should do. it means MS will lose customers.... bear
