OK so I was searching for domains on godaddy, its about £5 for .com and .co.uk, but £11 for .me why is this, i've never even seen a site with .me extension really.

That's new and very expensive to run TLD I think that's why the .me expensive than .com after all top domains taken on .me I'm sure they cut down their cost :)

Because it has a marketing potential and very easy to remember. Especially that only few people are using .me So chances are, the desired domain names are still available at .me.:)

OK thanks I understand the concept now, however concerning the fact it's easy to remember doesn't really mean much imo, .com .co.uk and other major countries will always be dominant and the most recognizable and I doubt this will ever change.

In terms of supply and demand, the brandability of the .ME extension puts it head and shoulders above most domain extensions in the long run, irrespective of how well established other generic extensions are. It simply has enormous potential if used well.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the reasons for the high price is to try and prevent what happened when the .INFO domain extension was released - it was so cheap that zillions of people started registering all kinds of .INFO domains (mostly keyword ones) to create crappy adsense sites and make a few cents out of search engine traffic. The web is now flooded with crappy .INFO adsense sites, which has not only resulted in search engines supposedly ranking .INFO websites unfavourably, but also it doesn't reflect too well on the image of the .INFO extension in general. So maybe the people upstairs didn't want this to happen to the .ME extension.

Oh, thats a great explanation. Hope the price of .me doesn't come down as .info
Who decides the price of domains?

It's new and they are trying to keep up the hype. I think .me will eventually settle in among other less valuable domains extensions, somewhere in between .mobi and .biz.

Thanks for the replies, I agree with you napa, I understand your point gingerbreadweb but I seriously think it will be hard for .me to gain it's status in the long run, unless some big brands take it on and treat it with respect, only then will the general public begin to acknowledge this new TLD.

However there is every chance it could be a success, but as I said I think some serious global brands would have to represent it first for it to gain any sort of status.

    Absolutely right.
Beside that, ME people are known as very lazy people, they don't like to work and they are little mediteranean country with one of most beautiful (and expensive) coast on the planet.
They just divorced from serbia so they probably hope not to work from now on, just because of their ME extension.
People was waiting for years for me domains, cos as i said, Montenegrians really have plenty of time.

I just would like to ask one question: have you ever seen any ccTLD which is cheaper then .COM?

Because you can use your company name alongwith it like for example "microsoft.me" :) However I won't find much difference what .name worth for.

In my opinion, it's one of those marketing ploys where the asking price is put higher in an effort to confer value.

.com has so much more momentum and value that I don't think there's any way it could be worth less to you than .me.......

I think you should notice that you have to register .me domains at least 2 years.
And it is a new extension, many people invest money to hold the .me domains and expect to sell at a high price.
