Why is it important or what is the purpose of having multiple usable IPs with a dedicated server?

Any ideas why you would need more then 1? I am in the process of configuring one to host a site and it says 5, 15, 20, 25 Usable IPs. Why would I need some many? Does it help with speed, loading, etc.

    Hello Brad,

The IP address that you actually purchase from your host comes in subnets. They used to represent it like /29 /28 etc.

A /29 IP range will have 8 IPs by theory.

1 for your Broadcast, 1 for your Loopback and technically you'll get 6 IPs. In that 1 needs to be your Gateway. So, finally you'll get 5 usable IP's.

Actually the main usage of these IP's for novice users are for Private Nameservers. A /30 will give you only 1 usable IP. You require atleast 2 IP for creating primary and secondary nameserver.

After that, the main usage is for SSL certs. You can manage more than 1 SSL cert in the server for servers hosting more than one HTTPS sites.

I don't see any other requirement for the IP ranges. Not that we've seen often. But I'm sure about one thing, the network speed or the page loading time is not connected to the no of IP's your server possess.

Anything above the range of /29 requires a Justification from the clients. So, even they provide you /24 (253 usable IP's), you actually need to show the real requirement for those many IP's.

I hope i've covered everything required. Please let me know if you need anything else.
