Why Is Google Indexing My Website So Slowly?

Discussion in 'SEO' started by gregdavidson, Dec 23, 2013.

My website includes about 70 pages of content and I submitted my sitemap about a month ago. So far Google has only indexed about 16 pages of content which is very unusual. Some of the websites I submitted in the past had hundreds of pages of content and got indexed in under a month. Does this have something to do with Penguin?

Google has about...1,000,000 site maps to process every month, which will make their servers crash a bit when a lot of pages are trying to be processed at once. The Penguin Algorithm isn't really used anymore since the Hummingbird update. Give it a few more weeks, and if there's no change, try calling or emailing Google.

    Regards,
    Owen

P.S. likes are cool too :D haha
P.S.S If Google says there's nothing they can do, resubmit the sitemap.

One of the reasons for the slow indexing may be a lack of new materials on the site. Try to write regularly to the site unique interesting materials, and You will see that Google will love it and will quickly indexing.

Another reason - maybe you have a domain with a bad history.

    Hi

You can try updating the blog section regularly and daily if Google sees pattern in you site update cycle daily or weekly. it will call the site more often and hence crawl and index your whole site.

I think recheck your page contents and also check every page about the robots nofollow or noindex..
I think, if all is OK, your site must index. If you have not added Google site map (XML sitemap), add ASAP..

Continue to add contest as suggested. I totally agree with that. I'd focus more on ranking well for some things and worry less about getting absolutely everything indexed.

Even if you have a sitemap in place, submit your websites URL to bookmarking websites and social media websites.. these websites are frequently crawled Google identifies external links on these website and add to their index.

Create a website profile in Google webmaster tools and check the server errors there. That may be the main reason of low indexing of your site pages.
    Other reasons can be:
    1. Slow site speed
    2. Content not unique
    3. Check your site for validation and HTML errors going here: http://validator.w3.org

We cannot say the approximate time taken by bot to crawl, but you can use tools that may help your pages in pinging your website in Google bot. http://pingomatic.com is the tool that have suggested by someone else when I am facing similar kind of problem.
Secondly the Google bot take time based on the reputation of your site, if you post content on a regular basis there is a probability of indexing your site within a day. So there is no fix time bracket for indexing your site.

Sometimes Google may downgrade your site and flag it as unimportant if not enough quality links are pointing to it. The more quality links a site has the faster and more often it is crawled. A site that is modified enough is crawled all that faster as well.

Change crawl rate in Webmaster tools to faster and see if that makes a difference.

If that does not make a difference then try what Faiz Shaikh suggested above.
