That's happened to me before too! It showed a 7 but didn't act like one. Not many pages got indexed and linking to other sites didn't seem to do anything. It acted more like the PR4 that it later became.
Dont worry. You arent lucky. You just did the right thing. Lot of content usually gets you a good PR5+ and something you did with the site which is good got you a +2 extra. Could you please tell us the URL for the site. It would be fun learning from it.
I have a beautiful site with lots of contents, but still have PR0, for some reason i dont believe in it.
Google PR is an interesting algorithm. What it looks for is relevance and popularity to some extent. What I found is that actual popularity is not a very important factor. I had clients with very niche focused sites with high PR even though they have very low traffic to their website -- literally a few hundred visitors a day at most. I think Google breaks sites in categories and subcategories based on "topic" structure that it created. Then top sites in each subcategory get high PR. If the topic/subtopic does not have much competition -- or is a very small, technical topic, you might get a high PR even with few visitors. Unfortunately having high PR does not guarantee high google ranking, nor does it guarantee traffic. We had clients with high PR (6, 7) whose sites were ranked lower by google than sites with PR of 2-5. Mind-boggling. Anyone has an explanation.
grantmoney and timothy104 Yes, right now, I am being blamed for selling Fake PR7 And I honestly don't know why it got PR7. Yeah maybe my site might drop down. It has occured to me twice where my sites got PR5, but in the next update, one of them got PR4, while the other got PR3. skionxb: Yes I give credit to skionxb. He knows I own the site but I was doing nothing to it. And he sent me an IM message asking me how did I get a PR7? And I said. I have a PR7? *LOL*
