why is everyone who posts on drupal.org forums a pompous ass?

Ever notice that? Seems like 99% of the posts in drupal.org forums include 1-2 replies that essentially say "hey, you're a dumbass, you shouldn't post that". This is fairly common on any tech-oriented forum but seems really rampant over at drupal.org.

And lol no I didn't get flamed on drupal.org forums. Just noticed it is all.

Drupal.org forum is a forum dedicated to discussion about drupal related development. However, so many people use this forum to promote their own services without knowing the essence of the topic and I believe if you want to keep the forum healthy you should remove such kind of elements from the forums.

Well....I guess if they are good developers and contribute to the community, let 'em flame away on the forums :)

I find the forums pretty helpful actually, its usually the posters who are not on-message that get some flack. I've also seen, time and time again, a poster being given excellent advice from several experienced drupal developers, yet telling them they're wrong and there just HAS to be a better way to do it because it worked in dreamweaver last time.

Most of the technical people & Drupal expert community will be there.. for if you ask one question in Drupal.org you get more & more different type of answer..

I am with you. I was totally ignored on Drupal forums. No replies whatsoever. I found better luck on LinkedIn posting on Drupal groups.

Drupal runs a very tight forum, it is true that about 1/3 to 1/2 of the posts are related to managing the threads rather than the actual topic.

Looking at individual threads it does seem like bullying, but if you consider how effective it makes their forum as a resource for the thousands of modules that are supported simultaneously, it is excusable. I have many Drupal sites using many modules and have to search through those forums almost daily, and I can usually find what I need in maybe 10 minutes. If the serious programmers there didn't scare people into keeping the threads relatively clean, the forum would become a tangled mess.

This is always happening you know why? People who are asking questions does not seem to know how to use the search feature of the site at all and they expect everything to be served right on the platter for them? Come on. Almost every question you can ask about Drupal is already answered in the forum. Just look for it.

I would have to second that.

There are also other thread types that tend to get mistreated. My favourite kind is "My question has not been answered in <insert time frame>, so I am leaving drupal for <insert CMS type>".

If one is looking for entertainment, such threads are pure gold :D

In the past I would have agreed with OP. You just gotta ask the right questions if you need help.

If you're so inclined the IRC chat is a great place to get almost instantaneous advice.

My own personal experience is the polar opposite. 99% have been friendly and helpful while 1% act like a pompous ass.

I have not been onto that specific forum, but have experienced many different forums. They all seem to have their own vibe. Some are more friendly than others. Some seem to be inhabited by nerdy 'experts' that rarely see daylight. Takes all kinds! As others have pointed out, it probably pays to be cautious on a new forum (new to you). User the search feature and proceed with caution. I once neglected that advice and got chewed up a bit :) Probably deserved it.

The Drupal forum is quite okay not perfect but which (not paid) forum is?

It is about the right questions indeed but also how you ask it. Many people don't include enough information so it is hard to help them or ask just rude. Beside like someone else mentioned most questions can be answered by using the search feature. There are so many simple and basic questions which could be found within a minute by doing a search query at the Drupal site or Google.
And I also noticed that there are many people who didn't learned the basic of Drupal but started building right away. And then are having issues because they are missing the knowledge about the system. Posting every problem they have with e.g. the taxonomy and content type on the forum. This is basic stuff and can be found by using the search function plus this happens a lot so I wouldn't be surprised of someone would answer something you don't like or don't answer at all.

It takes one kid in the classroom to ruin it for everyone. This is just natural as the bad events stick out more than the good ones. When someone gets their way, is it noted who helped? Not often, but still gotta admit the entertainment from that 1% is pure gold. :) I like the Drupal forums the way they are.
