Why is Everyone Talking About Twitter?

Social networking has never really been my “thing.” Sure, I use blogs and social bookmarking, but constantly updating a Facebook profile or following the rest of the masses to MySpace just does not interest me. Then, Twitter was developed, and all of a sudden I got curious. This brings me to the question at hand: Why is everyone buzzing about twitter?

Twitter is a mix of a micro-blog and a social network, and its growth rate is increasing rapidly. This is why Twitter can be a useful tool to anyone for any reason, whether it be personal or for business. To me, Twitter is not so much social networking than social texting because the updates you make have to be no more than 140 characters. I understand the social aspect; it feels like you are texting on a cell phone. But, are there really aspects that benefit businesses? Yes, there is.

I think twitter is only useless if you have no idea how to use it properly. A lot of people have shown they know how to use it to make money.

I think a lot of people would agree that in general, all "social networks" are useless.. it just gives people an excuse not to talk to people face to face.

Twitter is like the open social that people can see and share what they are thinking about your post, unlike facebook which is close community that will allow only acceptance friends only.

I still have not got into twitter. I do not even have a account. I just do not like the idea of always having to update or get peoples updates

Yeah not a lot of people have made accounts because of that reason, but I use it to get in contact with potential clients or customers.

lol, if you think Twitter is useless you clearly haven't used it properly. People make $1000s a day using Twitter through targetted tweets based on Google Trends etc.

Twitter is one of the most efficient content delivery machines ever to exist. An event can happen and spread within MINUTES.

I like twitter but I don't get into the "rules" or "how to twitter". I post updates when I feel like it, read updates when I feel like it...

The connections from twitter have been amazing. I've gotten onto radio in part because of my social media profile :) (ok, regional radio but still! :D)

The ability of an idea to spread like wildfire so quickly through retweets and replies, as well as hashtags is why I love twitter. I learn something new everyday just by being on the service.

Well it is a pretty big thing. The coolest ''thing'' about it is there real-time search engine.

    Now there`s some power!

I have made some money with twitter, so I know its all right,
you just need the right traffic at the right time with the right offer...

    Cheers.

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications.
