i noticed some people are trying to indirectly let people subsribe to their blog through email subscription. what's the purpose of doing that? i am guessing, it is for traffic and maybe even show off as a well like blog with many readership...is there something else that i am missing about the importance of subscribers to your blog?

It can serve as an indication of how many regular readers on average you have. Also, the stats are good to show to potential sponsors.

It's a great way to retain readership if they get emailed updates.

If you have monetization, such as an Amazon store, it's a mailing list of buyers when new products are added to your store.
It also serves as steady readers.

Also, you can monetize your RSS as well. Advertisers look at it sometimes to determine the average of returning visitors that you have.

It's one factor that I look for but not the only one. RSS can be fixed now by buying RSS.

It does give me a rough ideal of how many bloggers I have access to promote my free blog service. For example, I just bought advertisement on johncow.com. The deal was a 125x125(sidebar) plus a 300x250 in post ad for the price of the 125x125. This way, I'm reaching to regular visitors and RSS readers.

Because many are bloggers and read the RSS feed most of the time, I think it will be a good investment. I will do a post once the month is over.

Subscribers are a rough estimate of people that like your blog and return to read your posts.....

They are great for traffic and monetizing your blog.

Also, to show off your blogs popularity.

could you please tell me more about monetizing from feed subscription? how does it work? i saw one on feedburner but i realized it is same as adsense on my blog and there is a limit to the # of adsense you can have on a page. so it doesn't make sense to use feedburner adsense in my blog. is there any other way?

You can monetize your feed any way.

As my site and feed are programmed from scratch, and i am going to put widgetbucks in my feedburner rss feed.

I think you can use FeedFlare from FeedBurner to add some ads on your blog (if you want your ads to appear on every post, for example).

basically the more subscribers you have the more people are alerted every time you make a quality post or any post for that matter.

I believe lots of people who subscribe to lots of blogs have a lot of feeds coming through and basically they look for catchy titles and go unless they are hardcore dedicated reader of your blog.

that being said I have a lot of blogs that I go to daily but sometimes I won't visit the first few days if I was a subscriber to them I would probably get an e-mail and maybe visit sooner so, I go visit so the more subscribers you have the better

Absolutely. The more RSS readers you have, the more loyal your readership, the more chance of positive user feedback, the more likelihood that people will link back to you.

In terms of money, loyal readers are more likely to trust your recommendations too so in the long term you're better positioned to make affiliate sales.

Don't look at RSS feeds just as being a way of making money. It doesn't work that way.
