I found this article to be interesting. A transnational corporation who makes its money off people using the internet is suddenly running ads in which it demonizes the internet? Sounds like BS to me. It looks like "they" are trying to get the net back under their control. Read this articles and see for yourself:http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/january2006/030106aol.htm Yeah, Internet 2 is a scam. I pity the morons who jump for joy once its available for home use. "Think - Its the governments worst enemy."
They're trying to draw people into using their chat and message board networks. Y'know, kind of like flaming the tv audience to get a reaction.
I dont like the ad at all. For one i dont see the point in it at all and there is enough contrevery without one of the webs leading providors making ads like this
I see the point, and it is as clear as an hour glass. In addition to wanting to get people to use their service, AOL wants to control the internet. Why else would they be demonizing it? The internet is just about the only place left where you can follow the first amendment, and they aren't happy about it. To me its just the first step in a plan to regulate the internet. Serious internet users don't use AOL anyway so the ad is being targeted at the naive.
I think you missed the point. There are two ads, point and counterpoint. They're just trying to get people to visit AOL's discussion to create conversation about the topic. It wasn't AOL saying the Internet is evil.
I don't think I missed the point at all. Its just like the Reps and Dems fighting each other when both political parties are controlled by the same people. AOL is trying to create a controlled conflict. If some Neo nazi or any other hate group wants to get online and build a site, let them. Because if they can't express their thoughts, neither can I. You have to ask yourself why AOL is doing it in the first place. Did you click and read the link I posted? For one thing, AOL is probably going to try and get your email address when you go join their "discussion." They also probably try to put cookies into your computer while their at it. I'm just really suspicious about the whole thing.
I think the ad was pretty good. It definitely caught my attention when I first watched it with all the connotations, and I watched it through to the end. I think they're trying to break away from the '100% SECURE ISP, BUILT IN FIREWALL AND EMAIL SCANNER' as it won't work with a more internet prone audience. I also think it portrays AOL as a company who aren't just worried about making money (eventhough, ultimately, they are), it shows that they care about social issues which they have influence over, which I don't think any other ISP company has done so boldy in a television advert (unique selling point). Finally, it controversial content spreads debate. Such as this one Will have a few hundred views from people who will all be reminded of AOL - so it's completing that objective.
I really think you're reading too much into this one, Tesla. To me, the ads are about generating traffic to the aol.com/discuss forums. Nothing more than that. Internet 2.0 is a different proposition altogether, however.
