Why is an orange called an orange?

"FINALLY"! Someone on DP with a sense of humor! I was beginning to think that "The Webby" was the only one.

I think they ran out of names and just decided to call it an orange. Its a bit like a mother naming their child Christian. "What Christian name would you like to give your son?". "Yes, that will do, lets name him Christian" lol The same thing happened when naming the orange

 

In India There Is A City Named As Nagpur Which get recognize only for oranges . and orange color suit on orange tht's why it's called orange !

both colour n fruits
i think orange called orange coz grapes has named grapes,, ??
so imposibel called orange to grape

 

There may be two things happened. Either someone liked the orange and named it to color orange
Or may be he/she liked the color of fruit orange named its color as orange.

i think the human beings were confused about the name so they decided to start calling its name with its color.
