I recently lost a Maxtor hard drive, which ticked me off. So I read a little about Maxtor on the internet. Whoa! This calls for a summary web page (my thing) - http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/computer/data-backup.htm The first Adsense ads served were the guesses from my other pages - SOP - standard operating procedure for adsense. The second set of ads were RIGHT ON TARGET - 4 ads about hard drives. That was the end of that. I have probably blown 100 impressions (refreshes) since then. Now, its 4 ads on brain improvement 4 ads on paid surveys 4 ads on human memory loss 4 ads on speed reading 4 ads on procrastination 4 ads on consumer reviews Please don't suggest "ad targetting" - it has never worked for me. Then I tried Ad Links - all I get is the "Ads About" search box. It is as if "disk drive" instantly became a "poison word" for me. Any ideas? I give up.
The problem is you suffer from lack of patience. You see, the first time the page is served, Google only has access to the URL. It sees computer data backup in the URL and serves ads accordingly. Then as time goes on, it gets the content and looks for keywords there. It finds lots of them and start matching the randomness you show above. Your problem is that you think it's gonna start performing within minutes. It doesn't work that way. You have to give a page a day or two before Google gets it right. Your lack of patience is the problem and likely the reason you don't like section targeting as well.
Ahh. Absolutely right about the patience thing. Today, I am way too intense. Usually, I put up a page, and just go away, and check it later. So, there is a "quick guess" - almost instantaneous - often not very good. Then, after some hours? or days?, it gets better, upon page analysis. One question - Why was the second ad block displayed PERFECT?
Well, I'm just guessing, but I suspect it had put the URL or title keywords in the index and those matched up against a perfect set of ads. But I'm just guessing. There's too many variables at play.
Way too many variables. Not only are there the known variables, but how many unknown variables? I will continue to do my best, then move on, and use my time on things that I can control. I notice that THIS PAGE has no trouble displaying proper ads within seconds (of course, it's hours now)(see top right). Is there a different system for forums? Perhaps the algo is not "dumbed down" for forums (Doesn't immediately filter (reject) the most obvious keywords)? I have absolutely seen this happen on other pages, where the keywords are honest, relevent, appropriate, normal KWD, and they are passed over for lesser keywords. On purpose. Why? Or, maybe it's variable #63. And then, of course, Google is also testing while you are testing. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
I've view it First is Hurricane Victims Second is Make money with survey Third is Memory like a speed , Improove memory and brainpower , Improove study ........... 4th - increase IQ,intelligence, engineer your accelerated mind! 5th Speed reading 6th Return to 3rd 7th Get paid ..... Yes. So, it takes more than hours to fix it. It must be days. I'll report back in a week. Maybe it's weeks to get it right (either target appropriate ads, or drop the filter). I have sneaking suspician that it's a filter, and it will not be changed. I have no idea why. I have another page that can't get the "more targeted ads", and it has had months to get better.
"I have no idea why." Yes, maybe I do. There is just so much juicy ad inventory at the top. Naturally, the algo will display the high paying ads on the site with the best conversion criteria, whatever that might be, perhaps based upon - SERP position, CTR, traffic, PR, adwords site targeting, etc. I just ain't it (my page). All the small supply of top ads go to the proven performer (for that keyword). So that's why the obvious, logical keyword(s) choice on a given page (site) can be "overlooked". There's nothing wrong with the algo, it's working fine. Yes, you merit desired ads logically, but no, there are no top ads available for you. Get the SERP position, get the CTR, and you will get the desired logical top keyword ads served on your site page. Is that right?
I notice now that the ads showing up are for hard drives or backup devices. At least that's what I get from here in India.
ajayr- Yes! I'm getting all disk drive ads today, too! (California) Ta-da! So, in this case, it took 2 days to get targeted ads. Good to know. I have to learn to be more patient. There goes my theory about Adsense ad selection. Oh, well. Stuff happens. Things are always changing. Will the ads remain targeted? But you must try to keep up with what's happening, I think, if you want to do the best job you can.
