Why Is A New Tweet Starting With @account-name Called A "Reply"?

    If you start a new, original Tweet with @somebody as the beginning text, the Tweet is called a "reply" . . but it's an original, new Tweet, so why does Twitter refer to it as a "reply"?:confused:

    Original twitter always included the account names in replies - and it's why you'll see people put a fullstop at the beginning of tweets
