From the updates I have seen, it almost seems like at some point, you will have to pay to get on the front page. If that's the future of Google, it will surely lose in popularity.

I can say from my side (simple user) that google lose their position, because 50% of the results which I searched is a bullsh*t. 99% first results is a wikipedia

If you don't like the results you get improve how you search. If you don't like getting wikipedia in your results use the minus symbol i.e. -wikipedia

For instance if you do a search for SETI and wikipedia is your third result using -wikipedia will remove that from your search. True Story.

Improving your knowledge of 'search search strings' will definitly yield better results.

I usually don't find what I am looking for in the top 10 results. But when I sit for about 15 minutes looking, then it comes up with the result.

Google is targeting two things at the same time, quality and revenue too, so I think it is loosing in quality as well..... which would result in revenue too in future.....

Lots of disappointed people with Google, it is really not too good.

Gateway sites are so rife it's unbelievable - Google make me continually look stupid to my clients when their competitors are ranking with 2 or 3 page shell-sites - I have to sell Whitehat as it's my job, but the naughty stuff definitely still does the business.

Yes that's absolutely right,. Good example is finance niche and related search queries. Since only big finance companies are dominating these SERPs. you don't find any answer to questions like "How to.." How do I" "What is the best way...", all results are completely dominated by big companies like stock brokers etc.

I just did a Google search on "how to install webmin" and got some great results. I also tried:

    How to install Unbuntu
    How do I install quickbooks
How to install teamviewer on Linux
How to install PHP and Apache
    How do I buy stock
How to install .... well you get the picture

Also as a bonus I searched "how to search on Google" All of my result returned something useful. Give me a specific search that you feel is tainted, and I'll show you how to make it more relevant.

The thing is Google is very popular search engines, millions of pages are indexed in it, so it is really very difficult task for Google to manage, however, we should appreciate its work.

Google gave equal opportunity to everyone at one point and this is how they won the competition. They basically showed the results from wherever they could have found the related info without giving one site a large gap priority. However, they are becoming more like Yahoo now and they tend to show results from top sites only.
Basically, if someone wants to start a new successful website now, they either need to have a great capital investment or they simply need to forget it. We like the old Google much better as we expected to find new sites and new entrepreneurs on regular basis. Nevertheless, the key to success is to never give up, so continue your work entrepreneurs!

Do you have specific examples? These days, I find the search results much cleaner.

These days, search results are much cleaner. Remember back in about 200-2005 when spammy sites used to dominate? Even up until a couple of years ago (just before Panda) spammy software directories and junk such as experts exchange used to rule search results for technical queries. Much easier to find an answer now. Not just technical queries, but almost anything I look up. Is it so bad that when searching for some finance things big, trusted companies/sites are returned in the search results? I personally don't want a scam site ranking #1 when looking for new home insurance or an affiliate site with the sole purpose of pushing one or two providers. I selected result #4 - a big site, but known in the UK for helping consumers find the best deals (and clearly state if it's an affiliate link).
