My subjective opinion ! Template system is not simple. I like simplicity ! Everyone is using it. That doesn't mean it is the best ! and the last one .... no matter how much you change or put some unique template ALL i mean all worpress websites looks just the same. I dont even have to look at the bottom to see powered by ..... and i know it is wordpress.
With a little practice I got to where I could install it on a new domain in about 15 minutes. That includes writing a couple of short posts on whatever ideas I have for the eventual development of the domain. Add a link to it from a low PR page I have on a different site, and it starts the ageing process. Now I have a live site where I can return every week or two and make another post. Since the search engines only look at the text it doesn't matter if the site looks like all the other default wordpress installs. Much better IMHO that just sitting on a bunch of domains you plan to get to soon.
The biggest problem with Wordpress is when you get it setup nice and the way you want it using different plugins, and then a new version comes out and you can't upgrade, because it would break your plugins and entire site. Plus I also got hooked on using wordpress to make CMS sites but soon stopped because I realized the resale value of your site would be pretty low because of using wordpress. I mean it is such a hassle to explain to potential buyers to how set it up just right if they are not experianced WP users.
I say the same thing about Blogspot. Nearly everyone uses blogspot. Wordpress is flexible. While Wordpress is not for everyone, I like it the best. I've used many different blog platforms and I decided I like Wordpress the best. I got involved on the developer side as well with Wordpress and it's come quite far from where it used to be. We've been talking about creating a XML based plugin so that the PHP becomes easy and effortless -- I really hope this plugin comes along and goes into production. The one thing I do not like is how everyone uses the same permalink structures -- that tells me it's wordpress right away. Themes are the same? Yeah, a lot do look the same. But by no means does it have to stay that way. I have 2 sites that don't have any signs of WP anywhere. In fact if you looked at it, you would wonder what platform I'm using. I've designed it and coded it so well that it's nearly impossible to track down the platform. Upgrading? Yeah, upgrading can be a pain...just code it properly and use proper SQL insertions within the code if you're doing custom coding, and you won't have a problem. Upgrades come with anything though, that's a security issue. If you never updated windows, you would be left there with .. oh wait, windows still sucks -- sorry, bad example. Well, lets take PHP and MySQL then. Upgrades are needed so there is security and protection -- you will get this with _any_ software. -- my2cents
I just dont understand why people use bloated wordpress with when they only have categories, articles and content with one or two images on other side. It is slow and template system is really horrible. For blogging purpose there are other cms systems which can do better quicker and easier ! And some people are really into it ... well i am on the other side and happy with small light-weight fast cms
Kinda like when I look at a website, I know it's a website. Anyway, please elaborate why you don't think the template system is simple. It's actually very simple. Although I do not agree with the hardcoded bits which effect display, like the blogroll. Holy moly, ever hear of paragraphs?
how can it be simple when you have to learn to use it .... i want everything to be right there in front of me simple fast and in production imediately to understand what i am talking about check the link i posted earlier
Cool - thanks! I will take a look at it. But, I am not sure how it can be MORE simple than WP... The WP templates are darn simple.
Well, it was simple for me, that could just be because I know the code to an extent. This link - http://www.solucija.com ?
you will see how can something be more simple try it and report i think snews is the quickest way to hav cms driven website in production
I am going to install it, sNews, and play around with it later. Thanks for the link iatbm. "Single file" sounds like a great thing!
it is great and they have great community with even greater little tweaks and mods .... well i am happy webby since i found that
Sounds cool. I am looking for something to handle my web design site, maybe this will be it. I will have to see though.
I'll take Blogger over Wordpress anyday I think Blogger gives you much more control over the template.
