I have seen a number of threads regarding Bing's outburst at popularity. Well this is what I have to say about it. First of all, MSN is a popular site. Alexa rank is #6. Well um.. where is Bing's search engine located for easy access? MSN's site of course. It has replaced the MSN search. Honestly, there can't be many users you directly access Bing via the address bar, unless they are die-hard fans or set it to their homepage. If Google changed their current path for search from the normal google search, to an offsite, that site would benefit from traffic and would surely be known as "the fastest growing search engine." Google is always going to be ranked at the top. They offer so many services - and many more in the future. Not to mention their OS in the works. Hell, what if their form of "spotlight" or "windows explorer search" is Google Search xD (jk) The name "Bing" .. I don't know why, but it just brings back memories of the days I watched Friends on tv. Anyway, I just wanted to express myself. What are your thoughts?
I think bing will actually start to take over more and more if they keep up their marketing campaign. I have noticed that a lot of my college friends are using Bing now. This is only going to continue to grow. -Jeff
Just to throw out another thought...I think its difficult to predict what the #1 search site will be. I bet 10 years ago everyone would have thought buying maps would be the best way to navigate yourself in a new city...and maybe it still is, but I sure see a lot of GPS units being used. The point is, that peoples way of accessing information changes. The way people get to the place they want to go on the internet is going to change. 'Traditional Search' will be like using a road map in 10 years, and who knows what company and technology will be used then. I guess that's why Google has become much more than a search company...
Its true, google might just stay on the top at least for a decade. There way too many factors for that. The first of all being the adaptability and field expansion policy of Google. Microsoft is a huge-huge company, no-doubt but it many a times fails to touch a chord with people. Whats Google known for is "free" . What Microsoft is known for is "pay" . Microsoft has many a times donned the role as a villain, and all that for no fault of its own. Microsoft became a villain with Netscape coming to play in the browser field, Microsoft became a villian when it started windows validation and now it will soon face the biggest challenge it ever can, the challenge in its operating system sales. If Google s OS gets bundled out free of cost , Microsoft will definitely feel the heat and the pace at which anti-competition actions are being taken against Microsoft , it cannot lay claims to many things if the Google OS is free. Instead of Bing, yahoo has a larger potential to take over Google but it seems that Yahoo s CEO isn't interested in that.
I agree that Google will stay top. It is much easier to navigate than the other competitors and has the best algorithm
The only reason to use a search engine is for quality results. G gives good results. Bing does a poor job of it. Bing looks good, and has some nice features. But, those are not reasons to use it. If M$ were smart, they'd tweak their algo, and keep tweaking it until results matched G's. Then they'd have something to sell me. Right now, a pretty picture is no reason for me to switch. /*tom*/
nothing wrong with having 2 good search engines, especially if they give different results more good sites the merrier - better for research ....
Lets face it, Bing looks better than Google at first but the actual results do not compare. Plus, there is people who like the simple Google interface... i mean isn't that the reason why Google beat Yahoo in the first place? Google has been using the same old design for years now, so it will only be a matter of time before we see Google 2.0 and then you can't complain that Bing looks better
google always be #1 due to its constant update in search algo and more accurate result to user search query.
hat's a very interesting topic. But this field is still new to me. It will be grateful if you give me some more information about it. Thanks in advance. ----------------------- http://globolstaff.com
I'm on the fence. I do believe this was said about Altavista, then Mr. G showed up. In my experience change takes time, and the currently have ~15% of the market which is huge. If the Yahoo and Bing deal goes through those figures are going to double, if that happens its going to be a nightmare for Google.
I believed that google kingdom is still strong, it wouldnt be replaced in this this years. Bing and yahoo seems still weak on their search engine technology, the search result is not good enough and they also know about this. Therefore, they plan to focus on image search and wish to get more user from image search. Wish to see Yahoo and Bing grow in the future and take back some user. Monopoly is not healthy in the market, it give negative benefit to the user.
Bing has not only been a reliable search engine, but recently it is winning the internet marketers. Lots of marketers profiting from Bing and if it continues to do that; I think we really might going to have a new name for search "Bing!"
