Can someone advise me as to why I don't see GoogleBot visiting my site in my stats report? I am listed in Google, but have never seen where GoogleBot has been by. My site has been up for at least 3 months. Could it be that I am using a "free" stat counter?
I have a few stat trackers tracking my traffic. statcounter.com doesnt show googlebot. But the tracker on my server does. googlebot stops by every night for me.
Use AWStats for your traffic analysis as it is free and open source. You can download it from http://awstats.sourceforge.net
Thanks for the help folks. I use Statcounter. c o m for my stats. I have my website on a server 50webs.com. They don't offer php or cgi (for free accounts). Is there ANY "online stat counter" that would work then?
Nope... any JavaScript based stat counter is not going to include "users" who don't execute JavaScript code (like search engine spiders).
Thanks Shawn for the answer. Well, I have since switched over to a free web host that uses php and cgi. I see they use "webalizer" when I FTP my site (I see the webalizer folder). It is located in the "tmp" folder. I tried to access it by typing the URL to my site: mysite.com/tmp/webalizer/index.html but I got a 404 error. Do I need to ask the host how I access the webalizer stats or can I find it on my own? Or, being a "free" host, would I even be allowed to view the webalizer stats?
Hey folks, take a look at this! GoogleBot DID show up using the java script "statcounter".com Here is the report I got (its such a bad website that GoogleBot was the ONLY visitor I have had to the site in months. Host Name/Web Page/Referring Link magnify this user 28 Nov 02:41:21 AM unknown referer located in United States crawl-66-249-72-200.googlebot.com (66.249.72.200) Well tell me what you think about this, I am very curious as this website that was crawled I haven't done a thing with in probably 6 months to a year and its only 1 page on a free server. The website I would LOVE to see GB visit and am trying everything to make it happen, I get no visits. Any ideas?
