Why Have I Dropped so Low so Soon?

I wrote an article about Google Chrome two days after its release, and the next day I wrote it, it ranked me on the first place for a certain keyword. It lasted about 3 days and then I dropped to 5, then to 10 and now I'm first but on the second page :(

Why did I dropped so soon, what should I do to mantain the position and why did I ranked so high in the first place, when my site is only PR2? :)

Chances are that countless websites and blogs are gradually writing about Google Chrome. You may have just beaten some of them to it. Now as websites with more authority write something about Chrome, your site is getting pushed down in the rankings. It might be hard to get your rankings back. Check some of the websites beating you. They likely have higher PR and more back links. If you do want to try to beat them, you'll simply need to out-link them. Get lots of quality links and rankings will follow.

    Thanks for the answer vansterdam.

Some of the websites that outranked me are PR5 and 6, but I still hang on 11th.

I know that I should build backlinks to keep my rankings, and I'm already working on it. I just have a quick question. Will commenting with a backlink to my post on the pages which outranked me do any good or harm to my rankings on that particular keyword?

I think it would help your ranking as long as the link is from their page to yours and assuming they are not nofollow

A lot of articles are now available about chrome. I think more competition is the cause.

Yeah its to be expected since it is a blog.

I'm having the same problem but I went from the 1st Page for a good search to the 10th Page within days... (Not on a blog).

It could very well be competition my friend, you have haters that find your article and keywords - compete - and take rankings. Are you still building backlinks for it?

yup, I am still building, but instead of going up, I am going down for a few places every few days :(

I started leaving comments(good and informative of course, not spammy) on the pages that rank higher than me, with the link to my post and proper keyword, but it seems like it has no effect. Either I go lower because of doing that, or maybe thats what keeps me still on the second page, maybe I would have been much lower than that.

Why do you say because it is a blog? Do blogs go lower faster than ordinary site? I the theory behind this is: while the posts are on the home page they rank higher because of a good inner backlink and when they go on the next page they start to loose its rankings, or am I being stupid and wrong here?
