Why has Google only indexed my home page?

Discussion in 'SEO' started by Arcos, Dec 26, 2005.

Using Googlerankings.com I have been seeing which pages are now being ranked by Google, Yahoo and MSN

Have noticed that Google only ranks my home page. MSN isnt much better but Yahoo is ranking a much higher percentage of pages than the other two put together.

Is there a reason for this?

Is there a way I can 'force' Google to index my other site pages?

    Thanks

How long has your site been up?

I find that Google often indexes your homepage, then at a later date, as your site's link popularity begins to grow, indexes the rest of your site.

Also, do you have a sitemap?

    That's not what I see! I tried http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Aequitour.co.uk : 67 results.

With more pagerank G will dig deeper. Also, a sitemap would be helpful too. But, with enough pagerank and descent navigation, all your pages will be indexed.

You can actually get your whole website without any pagerank at all. Pagerank doesnt play a direct factor as links is what helps get the website indexed.

    Thanks for your replies.............

Site has been live for a few years but never been actively marketed. This is a new site but same URL with a lot of marketing efforts so want to make the most of efforts!!

Yes created a Sitemap with google last week so hopefully that will have an impact at some point!

Jean-Luc the results are correct but only the homepage is the true listing. You can see that the title for the pages are all the same except for the homepage which has been recently updated for keywords and they have been picked up. The rest of the site has also had keywords added but they do not appear! MSN shows this really well!

Is there anything I can be doing proactively to make google pick up the rest of the pages?

Not necessary, but very often a good idea.

Different websites are indexed by different search engines and if those sites link to you, then the search engine that indexes the site linking to you will rank your site.

Probably not needed, but you might try adding the meta robots tag of index,follow...just for grins. And do a google Sitemap.
