    - The most common reason for a PageRank bar to be grayed out is that Google just has not indexed you page yet. His can be easily checked by typing in the URL of the webpage in Google.
    - Another common reason for a page to have a grayed out PageRank bar is when Google has decided to ban the webpage. This may be due to a page performing some Black Hat technique like, cloaking, using hidden text or keyword stuffing.
    - A third and new reason for a page to get a gray PageRank bar is for being a supplemental result. Supplemental pages are still ‘respected’ by Google and thus add to your websites total Pagecount, but are not recognized as pages supporting your main content. They are basically seen as duplicate content within a website.

I've read that indexing takes place in cycles? Is that true, do people know when the cycles happen?
    How often?

    Cycles

On a simplified explanation, GoogleBot works jumping from the page just crawled to another page to crawl following a random link found on that page, and so on forever. Of course, pages with higher PR and updated frecuently are crawled more frecuently.

I've seen pages with gray PR and when I refresh them a couple of times they change and become green.

    How come?

that means google did not assign the pr to those pages or that site has been banned from google index

I dont agree with him. i have checked my sites and found some of the pages
which are not in suplemental has got grey PR. (infact sites are not banned in google)

I thinks its a google problem. Yesterday, my site has only one page in supplemental and today it has 9 pages. I have been observing these results and it varies everyday.

even in next update all your pages may not pr. although your direct link pages will get certain pr depending upon the back links.

maybe you can just wait for the next pr to happen or you can also try out some tools that predict site pr although they are not very accurate you can just give it a try.
