Why Google wants to run googleupdater & Crash..ler running adamantly in our systems?

just read this forum and really having a distressing thoughts about google now a days.
Why on the earth they had a installer for chrome thats works only if we are connected to internet? even the standalone one !
why they want to keep running the googleupdater.exe in our system? its totally brutal and its merely a virus which is used by them to take control of our offline activities and files too ! who knows? any one read their EULA from top to bottom ?

I am on dialup. One thing I hate is when I turn on my conputer, and the dialup connect window pops up. I wonder,"Is this a virus trying to upload my contact list before it distroys my hard drive?", or something equally bad. Us folks on dialup like to manage our own connections because our connection is slow. We like to set all updater programs to let me decide when to check for updates so we can start updating things when we go to bed, and not watch endless progress bars slowly marching across the screen like growing grass. I love Google Earth, and want to keep the program, but this updater thing is messing up the whole experience. I have resorted to unplugging the modem to stop the update madness.
I have gone through Google Updater, and checked the let me check for newer versions, but it doesn't seem to work. The damn thing still keeps wanting to connect when I boot my computer. I tried uninstalling Google Updater. This still didn't work. I found that there is this google process running in the background on my task manager. I kill this process, and the attempts to connect stop. I look for this process in the registry to see if I can delete it and I can't find it in the registry. It looks like it is buried as some GUI number. When I reboot the system, this %$#^@ process restarts, and the madness begins again. I tried to find the process using STARTUP in the control panel, and it doesn't show up there. I don't want to uninstall Google Earth, but it's starting to look like that's what I'm going to have to do to stop the reconnect attempts. Please, does anybody have an answer? Please Google management, try to accomodate us slow pokes.

The current incarnation of Google Updater installs itself in three places:
1) It sets up a scheduled task called "Google Software updater" that runs on two schedules:
EVERY DAY at 12:12 PM (this time might be random on your machine)
and also EVERY 20 MINUTES FOR A DURATION OF 100 DAYS (2400 HOURS) beginning when you installed Google Updater.
2) It sets up a service that runs ON EVERY SYSTEM BOOT (automatic service start).
3) Finally it sets up an APPINIT DLL -- meaning something that runs IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDOWS BOOT PROCESS BEFORE SERVICES HAVE EVEN STARTED.

This is EVIL. EXTREMELY EVIL. VERY ALL EXTREMELY EVIL. It is clear that they want to have contact with your computer whenever they feel like it, and I do NOT grant them that permission, regardless of what they think they can enforce with evil tricks and with their EULA.

I will run Google Updater EXACTLY AS LONG AS I WANT TO, WHEN I WANT TO, AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER I WILL DISABLE EVERY AUTOSTART THAT IT JUST SET UP. Got that Google? It's MY MACHINE, NOT YOURS.
