Why Google uses site title from DMOZ for some sites and not for others

    Does anyone know why Google uses site title from DMOZ listings for some sites and does not for others. This happens when someone types a company / domain name in Google?

    Please write here to find / share the best answer to explain the issue.

    use noodp.

    <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP"> <META NAME="GOOGLEBOT" CONTENT="NOODP">

    on the other side, trusting dmoz for anythink is a big & big mistake for google.

    dmoz is a paid directory.

    you need to pay to an editor for a dmoz listing

    Thanks Jim, trichnosis and magda for your suggestions. You are so kind.

    One more question. Is there any downside of using NOODP. Google may not include link juice from OPD if I use NOODP??? Is it possible?

    @enous-
    I think OPD is owned by AOL, am I right?

    @trichnosis

    It is not the case, always. I am also an editor but never get paid :rolleyes:

    DMOZ is one of the more stupid things i saw in internet. Not efficient at all, just a mafia where the people that "helps" there, control one category and will never allow new things that compete with their personal ones to get listed.

    Nonsense. DMOZ is owned by Time-Life Warner who also own AOL.

    No. The use of that tag is sanctioned by Google, MSN Live Search, and Yahoo. It will not affect your PageRank or SE ranking in any way.

    i think dmoz is one of the very well edited and maintained directory that is the reason why google trust it a lot.. also the guidelines to list in dmoz is also tough, so thats what helps spam links stay away!!
