Here is a site that is becoming very popular http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/

It is endorsed by not only one of the largest celebrities in the world but by a major television and entertainment company NBC.

Try searching for it in Google. "Jay Lenos Garage"

If your lucky and you do the right search you will find that it comes up 8th. Below popular mechanics and wikipedia.

Is this right? hmmmmm. Yes it is a new site but....

A person knows what they are looking for right. Why not try to give them the exact site.

What does this prove? That authority sites can blow away even a direct URL.

    Is this right?

Yes of course but that site seems like there has been no SEO done on it basically, so yeah it must be done in order to rank well. sdfjsdfjasdf.com can rank well for Birthday cake if I optimize it well.

Comes up 3rd on msn, but msn cares less about how old a site is which I think is a plus for them.

You're right -- because of the way that google allocates page position (backlinks, site age etc.) 'new' content (even when on a old site) can be very difficult to find through google. For new stories you need to use a trusted and extensive source to find them...for new sites I think there is a gap!...
