Not at all. Google gets around 25% more traffic than Yahoo. The fact that google uses hundreds of country specific domains i.e. ccTLDs (e.g. google.ca, google.com.bd etc) while yahoo.com is the main domain of yahoo and they also uses only a few other domains like yahoo.co.jp As a whole, google gets around 6% of daily page views while yahoo gets only 4.8% and youtube 3.0% This is clearly explained on http://awis.blogspot.com/2007/10/google-vs-youtube.html
thats because there are less people now visitng google thats why google is in the 4th place yahoo in first because yahoomail is so popular and many people are still using this service youtube is owned by google
alexa treats all google domains like google.cn, .co.uk, .au as different sites instead of taking it as one site. If you combine all of them and consider it as one, obviously google will be no 1.
Microsoft's live.com and Yahoo! are both established content and community sites who specialize in search. Google is just a search engine (for the most part). If Microsoft actually manages to buy out Yahoo! then they will have the most traffic out of anybody in the world by a considerable margin. Does this make Google less valuable or mean it's shrinking or dying off? Definitely not.
After using their system for a while now, I'm getting ratings per state and city. (takes a few months on the system to get this) Which is a great sales tool when pushing advertising for a site.
alexa got nothing from me... I never and will not use alexa toolbar. i have google as my homepage and it will not count toward google rank in alexa just because i dont have alexa toolbar.
but alexa rank has little to do with IE or FFx because really "smart" ppl use ffx PLUS alexa tool! besides that: Google has ever since started to SEPARATE its various traffic intense services into OTHER domains ( blogspot, orkut, etc ) while MSN and YAHOO tend to keep all in their ONE domain example live + spaces.live... the majority of traffic is spaces NOT search yahoo + mail.yahoo ... the majority of traffic is mail NOT search
I think Alexa ratings are helpful, they focus on visitors and pageviews which doesn't always translate into profits. You have have to take into account what people use google for which is finding information and leaving google's site which hurt pageviews when compared to say myspace where people tend to stay on the same site.
Its widely believed that alexa always gives a vague idea of site traffic. But from my experience I always found it inaccurate..never ever close to being proportional
I never bother about Alexa ranking for site quality.. Buts its an important tool when you want to place an advertisement on a site... More traffic means more viewer hence better business opportunities
