Why Google doesn’t like intensive directory submission?

I have noticed an interesting thing that after intensive submitting website to web link directories Google ranking positions are often rapidly dropping down and return back later! Usually website has even better Google ranking results after a month. I watched this process many times in my practice. Do you know how can this be explained?

I would assume that its because the bots have picked up the link and have given you "some" credit for that link
(im sure some will disagree) but not sure why it happens like this and would only assume that its in part do to the
    current algo they are using.

Be careful not to gather to many links to fast from any blog, directory, forum ect ect as it could get your site flagged
as your site is supposed to gather links in a natural way and not overnight.

    thx

Google doesn't like any actions that try to manipulate the ranking and SERPs .

Probably because the Website your are submitting is either new or has a weak backlink profile. Google has many datacenters and it is taking more time for ranks to equalize among them. At least that is my personal observation.

Continue submitting your links to directories, but don't forget other link building methods. Having a balanced backlink profile has its advantages. :)

I think a site's rank cannot drop because of too many directory submissions. If it was true, then people can do this massive directory submission for their competitors in order to penalize their ranking.

However, I personally think that submitting to too many directories bring no good. We should only submit sites to few high PR directories.

If you are working with a new site, its position in SERPs will go be likely to cycle up and down over a few days anyway. It could be a conincidence that you've noticed a cycle coinciding with your directory submission. In any case, how many directories approved your listing instantly? In most cases, approvals will be spead over a number of days, weeks or even months.

I have noticed this with article directory submissions on newer sites, but they always come back strong over time.

I think the general rule of thumb is when submitting to multiple directories dont use the same anchor text and not to go for these scams you see on the submission page where you see the whole "For just $30 you site will be submitted to 1000's of unique directories" where in fact they are all hosted on the same server and have no SEO impact whatsoever :(

Yes, I agree with you, domain age has a direct impact on Google ranking positions, the older domain - the better! By the way, the situation I described is more tipical for young domain names!

    Hi all,

My site is having the exact same problem, and it's driving me mad! you think your making progress then your back to square 1 or worse again!
I've only built links from directories that have a home page of PR4 or more and i haven't built more than 10 links a day.

Nandalinnaung- can you elaborate on what your saying please, because i don't understand??

    Regards
