I heard about your new site targeted option in adwords and thought I am going to give it a try. On Oct 22, 2005 4PM I set up a campaign for two ad groups with a daily budget of $40. I checked the performance of the group at the end of the day according to the reports the ad group did not receive any impressions and clicks on that day. The next day unfortunately a category 3 hurricane arrived and today still 900 thousand homes left without power only in Miami Dade. Fortunately, I had access to a computer today and checked my Google campaigns. When I opened the account and saw the charges for basically for the two and might be a half-a day, I almost got a heart attack. For the Oct 22, 2005 to Oct 25, 2005 period I was charged $291.33 for one ad group and $130.34 for the other one. In the first campaign the first day I was charged: $23.84, the second day: $139.15, the third day: $128.54. Even though that I set my daily budget for $40! The second ad group the first day I was charged $7.87, the second day: $68.32, third day: $54.40 As you can see despite the fact that I set my daily budget for $40 the system still charged me for well over the double/ day. By my knowledge the daily budget refers to the amount of the money I wish to spend per day. I think this is the reason why they call it daily budget. It means that I wish not to spend more than that. If this is not the case Google's interpretation and statements according to the daily budget is misleading and ubsolutelly not truthful. So be aware with the daily budget folks. Can somebody explain this?
Meh, that doesn't always fly. I'm an adwords noob.. but I had a $10 "daily" limit on a campaign and it ran for $26 today. That is a bit more than 20%.
Yeah I run well over 20% each day. I think its more accurate for higher daily limits than lower limits. I think its virtually impossible to predict search patterns, so if there is a sudden influx of searches, google can't pull ads fast enough.
There have been situations where Google has gone way over the daily budget and actually trimmed it down to budget figure. In effect, they gave advertisers a freebie (whether it came out of publishers' income is not known).
I experience the same problem, i am also over charged and now i shut down the compains. Thats the only thing i can do.
soul-healer, I wouldn't shut down the campaigns First try appealing to Adwords for not charging you more than the budget. You may get lucky
I have very low monthly advertising budget, so over billing i cant afford at any cost. thats why i did this.
