Why Google change my new site ranking from 50 to >100?

I setup a brand new site at Mar 6th. I build backlinks and see the number growing. I find my site rank at 50 for the keyword I want at Mar 20th. But since 28th I can't find my site even in Top 100. I don't know what's going on. I search for site:mysite.com and www.mysite.com, and it's still in the serp. Is this common or I'm penalized?

Maybe your competitor in your niche double the work in their SEO so they surpass you in the rankings. In order to maintain the rankings you must work around the clock for it.

While building backlinks it is normal, whenever Google see new links it puts you temnprarily on top then it go down and come back to a position which is fair according to google's calculation...

This is called Google dance in SEO world..

If you make editing work on your pages continuously, you will gain the previous position.

Only google can answer your question. I think you must do some social bookmarking and link building work. It is a common thing in seo

I think keyword optimization can be hard to many, especially when at times it may contradict giving the best content and titles for what a person may want to say. You want learn to work to overcome this.

    - Check if all your backlinks are still live
    - If you are targeting a highly competitive set of keywords then your competitors are working hard
    - Google may have seen that your content is not good enough
    and so on...

I think the best way is to keep working on same pace with quality content and regular updates on your site

May be your site is affected by the latest update of Google. And also since your site is new it may also be affected by the Google dance which is more common in new sites
