Hi I have noticed alot of people in india charging the same price as what a usa company would charge. Ok the work might be just as good but if the price is the same as say a coder/designer in the USA doing it i guess people would goto the USA company as the time difference would be the same etc etc Is there anypoint now in going to india for work when the price is the same? Just a observastion and would like to see other people reactions
Am not sure , but I guess it makes a difference on where to spend the money. like if you spend money in India on something , the same thing you get in the USA in a different amount of money.
the only benefit is lower cost. if i had a choice between a similarly skilled indian and american; the price would make the decision. i get a lot of my programming done from a company in romania. I pay about $10/hour, whereas I'd expect to pay about $100/hour here. Communication is a little slow due to the time difference, but overall, I'm very happy with it.
And there are lot of unemployed people in India who are looking for the job that is why they grab the option as soon as it come to them.
I second that. Time differences and language barriers can sometimes be an issue but you will find alot of people who are looking to outsource their skills english will improve with time as well as having equal skills to local workers.
Could it be that the Indians are starting to take the piss? I don't mean this in an offensive kind of way what I mean is that as the cost of living in India is way way way cheaper than in say the USA or Western Europe these Indians are chancing their arms? The whole idea with outsourcing to countries like India and other Asian countries is to get the job done at a reduced rate, relative to the countries cost of living. If I had to choose between 2 equally priced jobs between say an American and an Indian company I know which one I would choose. It would be Uncle Sam every single time. A lot of UK companies have relocated to India and I am not being racist here but it's a fooking nightmare trying to understand them sometimes in the call centers. Anyone that has had a similar experience will back me up on this. And the only reason the call center has been relocated to India is because it is much cheaper for the company to use people from there than have one here in the UK. The only person that suffers is the customer that has to try and guess what the person on the other end of the phone is saying.
Are you sure about this? One reason why Western companies outsource to India and China is because they provide highly skilled service at a much lower cost than would be the case in their respective countries.
They might be skilled to the highest degree mate but I tell ya I struggle to understand a word that they say on the telephone. This is just my observation but I know many others feel the same here in the UK. Some advertisers even make a point of saying that they use "UK only" call centers.
I think we're mixing un-skilled labor and outsourcing down here. What your outcome here is, is apparently Indians charging $10 for directory submissions, or $5 for a header and a western citizen charging the same. The reason for the $10 rates could be more than what meets the eye. The Indian fellow gets 400 INR for the $10 and finds it sensible and moves on with the rates. But the American, obviously will have alternative reasons for this. Either he is a kid, who designs for passing time or is looking for work to pay his college fees. Or he is a new webmaster, who wants to make some money to buy his hosting fee. Or plain simple, they know that no one's giving them work if they charge $50 a banner. Digitalpoint, no matter how great it is, is abode to a community of webmasters. And every community differs from the other and at the same time has limits. And I believe it cannot represent the entire outsourcing game at any cost. Companies save billions of dollars each year owing to outsourcing, and it's not just the call centres (I'll come to it laters), it's the taxes, making reports, and working like crazy for hours. All this for a salary of not more than $500-$1000 (many a times half than that) Then there is internal outsourcing, set up offices across the world in developing companies, then take work as the US entity or the European Entity and outsource it to their Indian Counterparts and still charge the client Premium rates. A perfect example would be Accenture. Call centre, I think what you've experienced is not always the case. Call Centre students undergo strict accent neutralization training before even being admitted. And their work hours range from 8-14 hours. Yet the customer satisfaction rate is at a good percentage which, I think is, good. So yeh, there are many reasons why Indians are given work. It's not just a $5 header that can define it. Again, reverse outsourcing has begun. Indian Companies are outsourcing projects to the united states. They're hiring American graduates. Also, there are many western clients here on digitalpoint, that swear by work done by Indians for them. So well, quality is not what you can run after either. Anyways, it's a complex economic process. Which I guess is not possible to be explained in such a small context.
This is how the various economies even out- once India becomes more expensive it will lose its competitive edge and outsourcing jobs will flow back here or to less expensive locations. It's like water finding its own level
This always gets lost in the shuffle of course. Not to mention that countries like the US/UK gain more jobs from outsourcing than they lose because of outsourcing. People really complain about it because it's a cute political issue.
Well for one if u can save money by outsourcing certain jobs to other countries u will have that much extra to hire more people here in the usa. When ur making that money here in the usa, where do u think americans will spend that extra profit earned? thats right america I have had very positive expereinces with skilled indian it workers, and the ones i know speak very good english.
Dunno why and no offense but most of the time I see Brits(Specially Scottish) complain about the accent of Indian support executives. While American/Canadian/Australian guys have comparatively less or no problem with accent.
I think for alot of people it is a principle thing to, If the price and quality is the same in your home nation I would contribute to the country i am living in and boost the home economy Also in the UK alot of companies tried the indian out source option and are reversing back to the uk, They also advertise on TV that the support is from UK call centres etc, I guess customers were complaining
It is economics all the way. Indians work at call centre for as low as 125$ per month. You can not hire some body for that amount for even 3 days in USA. $300 is like the average salary paid for a month in a call centre in India. In cities that would go up a little bit.
If you come to India now you will see the number of ford and chevy vehicles here on the road increasing every day. Who is gaining from Indians purchasing American vehicles. Actually the market of US made vehicles in USA is decreasing whereas it is increasing in India.
