looking for sum reasons to get a dedicated instead of a reseller like site5 which gives me 3 unique ip addresses and lots of the features i need. What are reasons u guys got dedicated?
#1 reason for me: So I don't have to worry what the other sites on the server are doing. (but you need to have enough traffic to justify it- IMO.)
I think I did it to find out just how many days straight I could stay awake defending against spammers, worms, bots, hackers, phishing, spoofing, hardware problems and to know exactly just how many thousands of lines of insecure PHP code is in all the programs running but most of all to answer the age old question...... Is Tums or Rolaids better for heatburn and upset stomachs
i can only think of 2 main reasons for going dedicated: 1. performance 2. security - you're never sure what the other sites do that will bring down your server regards.
Okay, I don't need one now, but how much traffic should you be having before you want to move to a dedicated server? Skinny
I outgrew shared hosting for a couple reasons. 1) too many users on the same machine, I simply don't trust other people 2) other sites were taking up too many resources. Having dedicated gives you a lot of flexibility and lets you do whatever you want without having to worry about what the admins think.
Get a dedicated server does not necessarily mean security. there are only 3 ways to ensure security: => you have the knowledge to manage your own dedicated server => you have a friend who manages the server making sure it is safe (or pay a server admin) => you have a managed dedicated service so the company guarantees security If you simply get a dedicated server but you do not run the security updates, patches, compile software, etc. etc., then it is not safe
The main reason for me is the possibility to use all the softwares you need without risking to receive an email of cancellation of service from the hosting provider for too many resources usage.
Im seriously considering a dedicated server, getting quite alot of members on at one on my forum and its beginning to slow down
I highly recommend LiquidWeb, just because of the awesome performance I have seen on the server so far and the awesome 24/7 support. I requested some more IPs last night at around 1:30am PST and they were added within 7 minutes of requesting them. Really fast support and I like LiquidWeb a lot.
