Why don't people post full domain name in threads?

    Hi

I noticed alot of people list domains in a thread by something other then the full address i.e. example [dot] com

Does anyone know what the reason is?

MODS, I'm not exactly sure where to post this so if this is the wrong place please move it.

    Thanks,

This is so it's not recognized by the search engines because Digital Point ranks high if you say the domain name then the DP thread that you used your domain name in will rank higher than your website and then people may do some researching and find out some stuff :)

Because they do not want a backlink, for instance if you are selling a website and place the full link, then there is a huge probability that your website sell will appear on google first page for your website name search, as dp is often crawled.

Sometimes the poster does not want the SEs to find a link (or even a nonclickable url) to their site in certain places.
