To create a 'complex algorithm' they would have to know atleast one advanced programming / web programming language. I find it unlikely they would know an advanced programming language but not know HTML.

Background of computer science? Are you trying to sound clever, or are you just stupid?

And, did you just call me 'dear'??

They keep it simple and change is not always a good thing. Only thing they really change is the logo on certain days which i find is kinda cool. Their design isn't all that exciting but it works.

Well Mr.Harper, had a nice conversation with you, now I dont want to start any online flaming over here(by using words like stupid and all),
If you don't want to listen to me/Vice president of Google, then I can't do anything else, for your information i have read the book "The Google Story", and more importantly I have some netiquettes left with me, so bye!

I'm not flaming, it's called debating. Disagreeing with somebody isn't flaming.
EDIT: Ooh, you edited your post.
If you were the owner of google himself I still would disagree. It isn't a matter of what you have read, it is a matter of common sense. Would somebody with no or little knowledge of HTML make a search engine?

Its lightweight, recognisable and at the end of the day does exactly what it needs to. I say keep it simple.

I don't know why the hell I am DEBATING, with some graet sole today, may be i have some free time to spend on net:, anyways I have again found out two links just to inc ur knowledge about search engine and html, here r the links from wikipedia
    SEACRH ENGINE

    HTML

Just to remind you what I have been telling u in my previuos posts:
making a search engine doesn't require html
they used the very basics of html, just to display their so advanced tool to people

Now tell me AFTER reading the two above links, if I am wrong anywhere,

and anyways I can't understand the fact that even though I have given the link, which clearly shows the interview of Google's Vice president......and that too the FIRST POINT of interview, then how can someone be so foolish to disagree with her ?

    From wikipedia:
A search engine operates, in the following order

    1. Web crawling
    2. Indexing
    3. Searching

Web search engines work by storing information about many web pages, which they retrieve from the WWW itself.

Now can u please tell, where the hell do u think that a search engine needs html?

Oh my god. I quote myself:
Please don't act like I don't know what HTML is.
Just because there was an interview with Google's vice president, it doesn't automatically mean it's correct. There could have been a mistake, it could have been misunderstood, or whatever. I still find it very unlikely you could know how to create a search engine but not how to create a website. Most people who can create search engines can create websites!
Maybe I am wrong, I just find it unlikely

    Correction :
Marissa Mayer is not the vice president of Google, BUT
Marissa Ann Mayer (born on 30 May 1975) is the Vice President of Search Product and User Experience at American search engine company Google.

wowwwwwwwww......this makes my point EVEN stronger now.........

Now who else can explain this thing in a more better way.........

What u are saying is :

But see the second point, that's why read carefully everything before replying.....
    1. The prime reason the Google home page is so bare is due to the fact that the founders didn't know HTML and just wanted a quick interface. Infact it was noted that the submit button was a long time coming and hitting the RETURN key was the only way to burst Google into life.
    2. Due to the sparseness of the homepage, in early user tests they noted people just sitting looking at the screen. After a minute of nothingness, the tester intervened and asked 'Whats up?' to which they replied "We are waiting for the rest of it". To solve that particular problem the Google Copyright message was inserted to act as a crude end of page marker.

Read the second point carefully, it explains the first point...........

Yahoo and Microsoft should be the one to redesign since they can't beat and not even close to Google

Why will you fix something which is not broken? Are you doing it?
