Well the ANSWER is this: When Google was first created, its creators (Page and Bin), did not know completely the HTML language (u can see that their main idea was to develop a search engine which can find other websites, and not to make their own website) Now years after they don't want to change their homepage, because without a single change in it, it is already world's number one..........but as many people (including some members in this forum as posted above) do not know this fact, and expect something more from the Grand Google, so they have created iGoogle, which you can see is much advanced that W live and yahoo, as it can be modified by any user (with or without signing into Google).
there is nothing horrible in simple design surely such change might not be welcomed by most of the people. maximum change accepted by users is what they do in their logo over special occassions. nice share
Why change what works?? Google is the most recognizable site on the web worldwide. What would they possibly achieve by changing?
I think you wrote this just for the attention Nothing wrong with the Google logo It works and works well And if you pay any attention you will have noticed that the header changes with seasonal events
Well how about reading my same answer, from the VICE PRESIDENT of Google, Marissa Mayer : {READ HERE} Just read the first point if you do not have time to read the entire page, although it's quite interesting....
The prime reason the Google home page is so bare is due to the fact that the founders didn't know HTML and just wanted a quick interface. Infact it was noted that the submit button was a long time coming and hitting the RETURN key was the only way to burst Google into life.I don't care what it says, you can't make a search engine without knowing HTML
dear, search engine doesn't require HTML, HTML is required to make a web page, and making search engine is not creating a web page, but it means they have created a complex algorithm (scientific tool), then JUST TO MAKE IT USER FRIENDLY, they had to create Google.com, so that a person without the background of computer science can also access that tool. Now to present the tool through internet, making a website was only the option, so they created a very very simple web page, with minimum HTML content and coding in it.
Google Doesn't used to look what it looks like now, It doesn't even had a image at its first launch : Google's History
