Well I do not really think that all the good domains are taken, you could combine your company name with the x name you are looking for the specific niche and all you have to do is to make that brand known.
It is true that the simple domain names like dedicatedserver.com or vpsserver.com are taken but that does not have to mean the end of the world for you and after all you are looking to make your brand known to the people.
For example sony or samsung are just brand names that are easy to remember and I do not see any tv/video/audio word in that brand name.
The most important part is to find something that would be easy to remember.

Well a domain does not need to use the x word of the niche you are aiming for.
You just need to think of a brand that is easy to memorize and make it a known brand.
For example there are still words that can be used with the x niche word that people may have not taken yet.
samsungdomains.com - this domain for example is not taken by anyone and it is formed by company name + the niche you are targeting.
After all you are looking to make people aware of your company brand name.

I did the searching for expired domain names through a few websites and came across some really good 2 word domain names. But never had any luck in selling them.

Domains are like a piece of art, really only worth something if they are in demand. Otherwise you just posses a 'nice looking' item

The Domain market is more or less saturated when it comes to the top gTLD's - .COM, .NET, .CO, .ORG
People and organizations have already blocked all the best possible extensions with the above extensions. This is the reason why new gTLD's expansion is taking place so that people can find a domain with the desired extension. Even though the top gTLD's will always be preferred, new gTLD's are good for customized extensions giving an idea about what the website is about.

don't waste time on handregs. Buy domains through backorder or expiring auction, best way to get quality name.
