Why some register register the same domain name in $5.99 (name.com) and some register register the same domain in $34 (register.com). Why the domain name cost so different? I am surprised.
Register.com possibly targeting specific class of people/corporate clients those who can pay a lot and there could be the difference between the level of services from other registrar, more likely in case when a service provider include value added service, the prices go higher side. It is like the differences you notice having a cup of coffee in a five star restaurant and an ordinary restaurant, you may not find the difference in the taste but you'll feel the difference in hospitality and the surrounding environment.
Its really the same. Domain name is domain name. Dns is dns. It does not effect you as much as hosting and/or other factors, but some people prefer to go the high route
I think! Register.com is most oldest and pioneers in registrars available on web! Thats why it charges something above cost to justify brand name & their service!
It's called business. Why can you buy a business suit for $100 or for $10,000? Why can you buy a loaf of bread for under $1 or pay $4?
register.com has things like live chat for customer support. probably things like this keep them from having cheap domains.
Totally agree with the posts made so far on this subject... that's business and it's what makes the world go round. It's about packaging and presentation, marketing, the target market, added extras and customer service, perception etc etc. The trick is to cut through what's presented and marketed to you and me and get what we actually need... at the lowest cost.
That's why it pays to shop around before making an impulse buy.. There is always a possibility someone else is selling the same exact product or service cheaper... And with domains, it definitely pays to start with the right registrar...
