Why doesn't Weebly show up in backlinks?

I've created a couple of pages on Weebly with links back to my site. I've created different links to these Weebly pages and Google has cached the pages but they don't show up on any of the backlink checks or in Google Webmaster Tools. In contrast, pages I've created in Squidoo do show up.

Does anyone know why this is? The pages are dofollow - I've checked with the Firefox nonofollow addon.

Has anyone out there received a backlink from a weebly site?

If the links don't show up, does that mean they are of no value to me and I should stop getting links to weebly?

The same reason that links from Free Web Sites don't show up at Google!

These sites (Weebly for example) are considered Lousy Domains by Google.

They give no regard to free web site hosting places, because its generally considered that people who are too stupid to get their own URL and domain hosting, are not good authorities and therefore would not have good links.

Therefore, Google has greatly discounted these domains like Weebly, to the point where the links don't show up any more!

I hope this is a good explanation --- its just a theory.

Many thanks DJMC - an interesting thought. But why is it that links from Squidoo (another free site) show up whereas links from Weebly don't?

Also, is it worth while building up my links to my Weebly site in order to increase the link juice back to my own site? Or is this just a waste of time???

No one really knows the mysterious ways of the big G. One of my weebly backlink showed up while another didn't. The difference? The one that showed up had LESS backlinks - yeah...go figure.

Thanks for this - it's given me hope if at least some Weebly backlinks show up!!

I don't know about my Ning site though - it's been cached for a while now and still no joy!!

Can you see backlinks from Weebly in Yahoo?
Check there in order to be sure, because sometimes Google doesn't show each and every link.

Yep good suggestion - try the Yahoo Site Explorer, which tends to be a much more accurate reflection of the backlinks you have.

Google are notorious for showing very few backlinks.

Google treats links from sub domains as less important. But the possible reasons for not showing backlinks from weebly(dot)com are (my opinion)

    1. Google already counts the link but not showing it

    2. Some google servers may not listed the links

    3. Google may treat it as link spamming or host crowding

I have had good luck with Weebly although it does not rank as high as hubpages.com Waitpaint.com Quizilla.com Wordpress.org it does do better than some 2.0 sites.

and as mentioned above, Google knows your link is there. They are notorious for not showing all the links to your site.

I have sites that have 2000 or more links on Yahoo site explore.

but only shows a couple hundred on Google.

Google is the most efficient search engines.

I have tested this by creating two similar sites, one of them had Web 2.0 properties pointing to it the other did not.Google index the one with 2.0 properties pointing to it within hours.

    the other took weeks.

The back links never showed up the Google

Whoa, I might have wasted my time making a site on Weebly. If it's no use, I won't bother with it anymore.

Weebly has much better site building qualities than Squidoo, if you asked me.

You can actually make a decent looking site with Weebly, compared to Squidoo.

Those Weebly guys gotta raise more venture capital....I guess. Just to get any respect from Google. :(
