Hi, Doing a search for "Sample Press Release" doesn't reveal my page and I don't understand why!!! OK.. I understand the basics of SEO but this is something more complicated (to me at least). I have a page: http://www.free-press-release-center.info/fprctemplate.html Which has the Title "Sample Press Release", the anchor text to it is "Sample Press Release" it has a PR of 5 and yet other pages appear before it in the Google. For example this PR4 page: http://www.ssdesign.com/librarypr/content/p100502c.shtml Why would that appear first? Age? Thanks, Gary
Again, Pr has nothing to do with serps, also consider the competitiveness of your keywords, Ibl, SE's friendly and more when you talk about SERPs. IMO
PR has nothing to do with ranking it hasn't for a long time. Your page is returned somewhere for your target phrase as we can see (copy and paste url I'm not allowed to post links yet): google.co.uk/search?as_q=Sample+Press+Release&hl=en&num=10&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.free-press-release-center.info&as_rights=&safe=images Obviously the competition on that phrase (which appears to be quite stiff) is doing it a little better than you (possibly more links pointing at the page using the term).
Hi, OK, clearly there is a gap in my knowledge... I thought page rank was related to SERPs... If it isn't, what is? Second then what is the value of Page Rank? Thanks, Gary
I want to ask the same question. From what i read on this forum, PR has nothing to do with anything .What is it used for, if not for SERPs ?
It is supposedly an indicator of the quality of inbound links to a site. It hasn't been used to determine rank position for a couple of years. Higher PageRank sites typically get spidered more often, but other than that, it's just window dressing.
The PR of a site has little to do with it's search rankings, it's the PR of inbound links. For example, a site a PR 9 inbound link containing the keyword "Sample Press Release" will probably rank higher than a site with 1,000 PR4 inbound links containing the same text. The power of a high PR is how it can help your deeper pages, since a high PR allows you to move your other pages up the ranking more.
Yes thats right but no body can say what PR's DO But Google's algorithim may be different for different search terms(In my for some least search terms Google may not look upon PR,who knows what these bots do!)
If you read the original definition of PR back in Stanford days, you'll see my explanation is approximately how it works. Plus, I've spoken with a Google engineer over the past few weeks who have confirmed that my logarithmic example is approximately correct for how PR impacts search rank (there's many more factors, such as filters/duplicate content detection/spam detection/etc., but the generalization is pretty close).
So, the bottom line is a need more external link to that exact page with the anchor text rather than relying on the PR granted to the page from its parent? Thanks, Gary
You are right on. I am 100% sure that anchor text on incoming links is the biggest thing. Also google toolbar possibly records what people search and bookmark, which means you actually have to have good content.
GIO, they're all connected, TRUE, but look how many times there are sites with low pr and low incoming links ranked with the big boys for big terms and not just .edu's(which i'm insanely jealous over) it's all anchor text and how many shots they bought larry page the night before.
the toolbar pr is not even your real pagerank....your real pr is hidden by google and they update the toolbar pr once every 3 to4 months I'll try to use a simple explanation.....you have a site about press releases.....if you get a a couple links from PR10 DOG sites...your PR is going to increase a lot...but is getting links from sites about dogs going to help your rankings......NO
