I think its more about politics and those small "clans of editors" that are responsible for the image that dmoz has right now.

    Cheers

Well, for those unwilling to contribute, it is of course still frustrating to not see your site accepted... It's not the most transparent system in the world either. And though it's pr is sinking, due to losing respect online, it's still the highest PR free directory out there. It is also, like google, known for it's principles - which means it's held up to a higher standard than other directories.

All that ads up to loads of reason to complain, and room for conspiracy theories to grow strong.

How can you put both statements in the same post ? What principles when you say " it's pr is sinking, due to losing respect online "

Respect comes when someone follows its principles :p

    Makes sense

I still didn't see any real reason about why nofollow should not be used for commercial listings(other than "it's.. not necessary " )
They can try it, and see the results, if it doesn't work the way it's supposed to, it'll be easy to remove it. This much of resistance only makes me think that statement is true: you know what happens and as beneficial for you to defend it.

I could be wrong but I don't think this is a decision that can be made by editors, not even senior editors. I think this is the type of decision that would be made by the owners of the directory. Ask AOL.

The problem with nofollow is that is is for links you don't trust.

No one so far has answered the question: why should DMOZ list links it does not trust?

Make a proper business case to the owners of DMOZ as to why they should do that, and they'd be mad not to do it.

Right now, there is no perceivable logic to the proposition.

It's spoken on this very topic about why those links are not trusted, you can check them.

Anyways the reason i started this topic was to see what people think about it, i saw it - thanks to all who commented esp. Annie, she's more kind and helpful than most of the editors i met so far, now i will write to AOL a mail even though i know i won't get a response, but well, i'll just do my part, rest is up to people, i can't reverse a river on my own.

    wheheh thanks, i know i won't lol.

But 40 years from now, in my space ship(not myspace), i'll look down to earth, and in a great confidence i'll say "Yeah! your grandpa sent AOL a mail!"

well.. i didn't say this. I'm drunk overnight
