Why does well written code that shows up on Chrome and Firefox look terrible on IE?

    What about <spacer>, I've been viewing a few sites that say it is the way to go. I though &nbsp was a space that was problem in coding? At least it was in HTML... I'm from old school so when I use to see those I always thought it was a problem... so I deleted it.
