when I search for "business card magnets" in google, businesscardmagnets . com is #1. Why is it higher than vistaprint . com? vistaprint has more backlinks.

i would think because of all the keywords are in the domain name, and according to alexa Online Since: 12-Dec-1999 so it has a good "age" bost as well. also for vistaprint google will get the java error page for its index http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/vp/errjscript.aspx
It seems like all there links are coming from other pages on their own site. Do links from your own site help? Is there a way to search for the links that aren't from their own site?
To be honest, I wonder why is vistaprint listed at all. I am using this naughty little tool called SEO Text Browser. It is more like a toy, but sometimes it can push you into the right direction. Well, the truth is that browsing Vista with the text browser I cannot see anything. A blank page. Now, if you look at the code, it is madness. Complete madness. The keyword density is 0 and I could go on and on... Whereas Businesscardmagnets looks like **** but in fact is cleverly optimized. The keyword density is 2.61% (can be improved but still it is something). I am not saying businesscardmagnets is faultless but it is much better than vista. In fact, if vista wouldn't have this much backlinks it would hardly rank in Top1000. It would be nice to hear from other guys!
I've seen a page rank #1 in SERPs just from 1 backlink from PR4. It means that PR does helps your search engine ranking. Either backlink comes from other sites or internal pages that does not matter. PR is based on pages and not sites anyway. To check backlinks from other sites FREE way use Web CEO. Web CEO has more fully function service in his FREE version compare to others. Hope that helps. If it doesn't matter where backlinks come from, then why do we try to get links from other sites? Why don't we just focus on making thousands and thousands of links from our own sites?
You have to remember even if their links are mosltly internal they are still coming from a keyword rich/industry related domain

It does not matter where your links comes from. What matters is the PR of that pages where you create your backlinks. YES you can create 1000s of pages linking internally but you must have good internal PR pages to support it and the relevency of your anchor text is also a must. Cheers Azlan (AzlanHussain.com)
My oh my oh my! Don't take offence, but you have done no optimization on your site. In FireFox your contact form doesn't work at all and in IE it displays multiple security codes but that's not the story. Anyway, I looked at your site with my Text Browser and it shown you had optimized your site for keywords "value alert please" Then some large pics don't have Alt attribs. My advice would be: add loads more relevant text to your start page to increase your keyword density! Tweak your Title and Meta Descr tags to make them more relevant. Also make your site user friendly. Are you sure your visitor knows where to click once he/she has landed on your page? I am not! You obiously have more than just this start page. Where are all the other pages? Why I don't see text links at the bottom? Good luck!
I am thankful for the heads up. I just switched my site to a new server and obviously there were some problems. I think they are all fixed now. Can you please look at my site again and give me your ideas on how to optimize the page to rank higher for the term "business card magnets"
Quality of back links matter the most. My site has about 10000 links, but a site with about 800 back links out rank my site in search results.
IF this is the case whats from stopping your competitors paying, for links from bad neighbourhoods to your site, to pull you down the serps. I think it's you linking to bad neighbourhoods, as you can't control who decides to link to you. It is about link juice, anchor text, on page optimisation, page titles.
