hi i wonder if someone could shine light on this ranking problem. If i type in google umbrella stands then the site www . umbrellastands com appears on the first page. It has no description on google apart from welcome. When you goto the page theres no title for the keywords or text on the main page!!! Yet my page umbrellastandshop co uk ranks pages and pages lower. How did they do it!!!!
maybe it's an older website then yours.maybe it has more relevant backlinks then you. try to get as many quality backlinks as you can,and then maybe you rank higher.without backlinks,your keywords are nothing
You've just witnessed the power of exact match domain names. You can outrank it, but you'll need to put more effort into both on-page and off-page SEO. Your on-page SEO could be better too, because I think for starters your title is too long. Focus on only two keyphrases and put the most important one first and use the meta description to describe which types of umbrellas you sell. At present your title begins "umbrella stand shop" - if you want to rank for the plural "umbrella stands" you'll need to change this to umbrella stands. Look at where you rank for "umbrella stand" - you have a higher position than "umbrella stands" because the phrase is at the beginning of your title. Phrases at the beginning of the title are taken into account a lot more than phrases at the end of your title.

The site that ranks first in Google has a few strong backlinks. One PR5 and PR4 plus a few others, while the highest PR link you have is PR1. So here's the catch...
Don't forget your own page title - it is very important. Doing some on-page SEO will only cost you a little time and will reap good rewards. The other site has an exact match domain, where the keywords they wish to rank for (in this case, umbrella stands) are an exact match for the domain name. This is why they are ranking so well despite the lack of SEO on their site. Sites with exact match domain names rank a lot easier for the keywords in the domain name.
Three things in no particular order... 1. Better Domain Name. 2. Better Quality Backlinks. 3. There domain is 10 years old. Yours is 8 months.

I agree with above findings, that domain is old with quality BL plus the keyword based domain name with TLD(.com) has extra value to get higher SERP. Thanks!
