One particular site has a PR4 in its non-www version and no PR in its www? Is this a fluke? How do you interpret this?
Because technically they are two different domain names. WWW.example.com is really just a subdomain for example.com.
yeah, all the incoming href links are non www... but i think this is stupid. google should be clever enough to know www.xxx.com is the same as xxx.com. hope they do something about this in the next pr update.
I have it that some of my sites without the www do better in PR then with www. I think there is a way to fix it, but i dont have the time.. good luck
Google is 'stupid' in this regard. They probably have something to gain financially from it, or they have just adopted a Microsoft mentality: "We're too big and bloated to care". It really messes up your ratings when some people link to you as www. and others leave it off.
That's a really good question. Can anyone tell me if it is better to submit without the www or with it? Is it better to have a higher page rank with one than the other if you want to sell it? Thanks.
I think there is a way to merge the two in Google's eyes. It uses .htacess to redirect. I need to do this for my site. Both forms are PR5, and I hope to combine them to get a PR6.
I have a step-by-step on how to fix this problem with .htaccess here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=48460 This particular solution should work with index.php, index.htm, index.html, etc. There are at least two other similar solutions posted at DP if you do a site search.
