Two other thoughts: 1) You're not doing too bad. In Alexa, you're ranked 1.9MM. Not great, many are a lot worst. 2) I agree on the layout. Looks relatively good. Reconsider your navigation though. It says at the top: "Popular Tags." Perhaps convert those "tags" into tabs so it is more obvious as to what those links are or consider a typical magazine layout in terms of navigation e.g. Time or men's magazine layout e.g. FHM - not huge fans of either of those - so don't take that site design verbatim but you get the idea.
Wow, thanks for the feedback so far. I've already made a few changes: -site description text in logo -slideshow on homepage is slower To answer a few questions: The CMS was built from scratch. I guess what I'm going for is a more refined men's magazine with more substance than other men's mags She's not my gf, just a model i found on craigslist. garretc2003, your suggestion of making the tags into tabs is something i'll keep in mind. I guess I'm not putting enough effort into my marketing. But it feels like there's digg, and buying advertisements. I feel sort of boxed into just that right now.
My first impressions: * After looking at the site for a minute or so, I still wasn't sure what it's about * You definitely need something to grab onto - something to read, or....??? It looks just like links and ads. Hope this helps.............
You have a nice layout and some very nice content going on. The problem is exposure and the number of people actually knowing your link exists. Not to just throw out my services, but I sincerely think I can help you out. My website address is http://www.forumhorizon.net and I can offer you a Signature Posting Plan that will get your link in the sigs of hundreds of posts on several popular forums. This will expose your url to thousands and draw in new visitors. Private message me, email or, or just go straight to the website and purchase a package if you want to try it out. Good luck sir.
I personally still wouldn't dedicated too much time to stuff like this until you're a bit bigger, like double the articles, if not triple. Then you can slack on off the writing and put all your effort into and marketing.
Nice site but don't matter how much you pay for someone to build it or how nice it is, the most important thing to any site is traffic. Try some seo, PPC and buld links to your site, you'll be surprised.
spoom, you are going to have to advertise, and get word of mouth going if you want some serious traffic. SEO ain't going to cut it as it is overrated. If you can, also spread your articles to other sites: DIGG, stumbleupon, MSN, Yahoo, ezinearticles and other article directories, other content-type sites like yours....
Good job in pumping up the purpose of your site ('men's magazine'). With that said, I think you are overly enamored with your rotating pictures. They distract folks from truly understanding what the site is about. Consider making them smaller, pushing them to the side and pumping up your content. Also, anything to do with Lindsay Lohan is good for traffic. You're a writer - come up with something.
Well the missing metatags have already been mentioned. I had to scroll down to see what the site was about...the site's purpose should hit us immediately. More text early on would help.
Looks awesome to me! I think you just have to work a little harder on getting the word out. It just doesn't come by itself. Try free things like stumbleupon and making some youtube videos. Otherwise you can buy advertisements on other related sites.
