Why Does My Site Suck So Much?

    I've been working on this site for the last several months and it's going absolutely nowhere. Traffic is nearly nill. Backlinks are nearly nill.

    http://www.womopo.com

    What's wrong with my site? Why am I doing so poorly?

    Well ask your self this question.
    "What does your website have to offer that no other web site has?"
    Just because I make a website and it's original content doesn't mean It'll get traffic... Check how many websites there are that are related to yours... I'm guessing theres a lot. So there is really no point in competing unless yours has something really good and really new.

    Well Germz has a good point.
    I think I do too. Sum total of your meta tags:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/includes/style.css" />
    <script src="/includes/script.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <title>Home - womopo.com </title>

    You'll never get anywhere this way. I made same mistake too.

    Huh. I thought meta tags were dead, but I'll definitely add them tonight. Another thing I was thinking of doing was adding a sitemap. Oi. My SEO isn't quite there yet.

    Thanks.

    Definitely work on some backlinks. Submit to directories, post on do-follow blogs, and participate in link exchanges with other related websites. The content on your site seems to be there, but it is called internet marketing for a reason: you have to market your site and put your name out there.

    You have a nice site, but you need more info to read.

    You also need to slow down the flash that is showing your articles / info. Not many can read that fast.

    As for not being able to get more visitors, what all are you doing to get your name out there?

    I think you should post pictures of the girl in the bottom right of your page. Then you may see some traffic!

    There is nothing wrong with your site. Do some SEO as others suggested, add lots of new content and promote, promote, promote...

    There are a ton of things that need to be done e.g. SEO etc. But before you do that, do the "monkey test." Pretend you know nothing about the site and come to your site for the first time with fresh eyes. I did that and I had no idea what the site was about. Was it a blog, was it a portal, what? Then I had to really search to find out that, at the top in small print - this was a men's magazine. Make there be no doubt that this is a men's magazine. Pump that up. I agree with anarmyofme - get that woman at the bottom right, up to the center (sex sells) and replace all those rotating images that tell me nothing. Then work on your competitive differentiator - how are you different? Are you going to be tongue and cheek, are you going to be... what? Once you have all that, you are ready for SEO.

    From an exclusive content and imagery standpoint, it's awfully hard to compete with the big guys in this category. They have resources that you cannot compete with unless you have something truly unique up your sleeve! At fist blush, I thought your site was a business site, so I'd suggest jazzing it up more. You have room to move in making it more fun while still coming off as sincere. All the SEO in the world won't help you if visitors don't care for your content.

    Get rid of the adsense, don't put it on until you have enough traffic or just don't put it on. CPA offers rock.

    Nothing is wrong with your site besides that. I can't believe you actually got a girl to do that for your site. Pretty cool :). Is that your gf? lol

    It always surprises me to see really awesome looking websites (from a graphics point of view) that don't get lots of hits and some pretty average or simple sites with tons of hits. The problem is a general problem of marketing: Even if you have the best product in the world, no one will buy your product if they don't know about it. So you need to get the word out. There are hundreds of ways to do this starting from really cheap things like posting on forums such as this, to emailing your friends a weekly newsletter with good content that they then forward on to friends, to having reciprocal links to other start-up sites, to paying money for advertising links on other sites. you just need to do a bit of research online about web marketing and you'll find tons of ideas. there are also some really good Youtube videos of online marketing gurus like Stephen Pierce, etc. that are really helpful.
    The bottom line is, you can't just put up a website and expect to get hits, you have to actively promote it (not neccessarily expensively) just like a manager of a business promotes his / her business. Think of it that way and good luck!

    LOL, I didn't even realize it was a men's magazine until I read that post.
    I actually think that site is excellent. While I was there I thought it had a very MSN'ish feel about it. I read several articles while I was there. They were very professional, well written, decent length. I found myself scouring all three main category pages looking for links to more articles that I may be interested in, and if there had been more written like that, I probably could have spent quite some time there.

    I'm new to this game and don't know enough about SEO and marketing yet, but my opinion is write, write, write more. It has a lot of potential.

    also:
    slow down the flasher on the first page.
    make the men's magazine words bigger.

    You need to be different to stand out from others but that doesn't mean abandoning the basics. And the basics of any men's mag or online site means half-naked chicks all over the place.

    The first thing that's going to catch any straight man's eye is the picture of a beautiful woman. Let that draw them in and then they'll read the articles from there.

    I actually like the layout...you have everything pulling from different content sources and nothing that appears to be unique content. You need to add some content to the homepage about the site's focus and start posting daily content written by you that give the search eninges something new to index. If they see the same stuff they see all over the place they wont value your site like if you have some great unique articles and reviews about various things. You content is funny on certain pages...ie the article about horney girls. Keep writing and your traffic will increase. In my opinion content production ie writing is the key.
