Why does movie violence get edited out when it shows on TV?

when i am watching old movie that i have seen on dvd, when that movie shows on TV they will edit out violent from that scenes but the scene is not even much violent by modern standard......

for example: when i watch the movie child's play on dvd it will have full movie, when that is shown on tv they will cut scene from the film that makes it shorter but the scene they cut out is not even that violent and gory compared to newer film which isn't edited.......

    why this happens??

because its gratuitous and doesn't move the story along.

it depends on the time slot in which you see the movie on TV, usually when it's on earlier in the day / afternoon and night they will cut out a lot of scenes to protect children that may be spectating.

It sucks, the parents should really be monitoring what their children watch. Why should the rest of us suffer? TV is terrible as it is... no violence, sex and foul language = even worse!

I think it depends on the TV ratings, the time slot and the time constraints for the movie to be shown on TV.
