Why does Internet Explorer seem faster than Firefox after my ram upgrade?

When my computer had 512mb of ram Internet Explorer seemed like the slowest thing on earth and Firefox pretty much wiped it off the map. But after I upgraded my computer to 2 GB of ram Firefox appears to be the underdog now and Internet Explorer is going really fast. I don't know if it's just my computer or maybe Internet Explorer requires you to have a certain amount of free ram in order to work properly.

Uh not really sure, I've noticed that IE updates are coming in and it's been improving the speed, I still would use FF over IE.

Kind of defeats the statements that Firefox is a memory hog, eh? I've always said IE uses just as much as FF.

In any case, when FFv3.1 comes out, it's javascript engine will be 10x faster than IE8 so, again, no reason to ever use IE.

Try using firefox again in a few days and you'll find it faster. IE sucks.

plus the fact that with all the add ons you can get with firefox its a no brainer.

IE is a thing of the past. Its always funny to me how I can design a website in Dreamweaver and it looks perfect in FF. Then I open it in IE and its completely broken. I hate IE with a passion.

IE has always been faster. FF is the slowest, buggiest, resounces clogging POS browser. Look at who uses FF - broke wannabe webmasters who can't add two and two. Why be one of them?

I'm using Firefox only because it is more secure. If you ask bout speed, IE is like wayy faster. And I have 2GB of RAM. Maybe it somehow boosted up IE performance

Lol! All the top designers in the world use Firefox. NONE use IE. And ALL the browser speed tests show IE the slowest of them all.

While you post such things, apparently you can't read or understand.

Who are the top designers? You mean the DP members from third world countries who are scamming people for change? Pro designers use IE. Pro sites are designed for IE.

http://www.firefoxmyths.com/ - speed tests prove FF is the slowest browser that only a loser would ever use

Actually, latest analysis shows that Firefox is more insecure than IE.

In the last year, 31 security holes were found in IE, and, hold on 115 holes in FF.

Personally, I use IE on my home-laptop, and FF on my highschool-laptop (it's on Ubuntu). And I don't see why people rank FF higher than IE.
IE is WAY more streamlined with a robust look-and-feel, where FF just looks like everything open-source stuff, where amateur designers has gone crazy in photoshop. Comparing IE <=> FF is like uhm.. comparing the design of an apple-product with a toys 'r' us childrens product.

And if FF's Javascript engine is 1 seconds faster than IE - who cares... I have other things to do than comparing milliseconds when I browse. Not just because fanboys are complaining about their opinions regarding FF (and IE). But... I don't think it is actually THEIR opinions, but OTHERS opinions. It's like children - if daddy and mommy (or some of the close friends) say something, you'd agree to that no matter what.

    Ough...

You are a joke. Let's start with Andy Clarke, Molly Holzschlag and Eric Meyer and I'll give you a while to Google for them so you can figure out names you've never heard of.

I've used both IE and FF for quite some time and I'll give you my unbiased opinion. First thing is first. One reason why I switched from IE7 to FF3, was the View Source format, all nice and colorized and font formatted in FF ;) Second reason was the HUGE IE glitch/hack that made millions of computers prone to extreme danger (news posts were everywhere stating to switch from IE to another browser until Microsoft figures out a patch); and since I have lots of sensitive information on my computer, I switched immediately. Another thing, the display which IE uses is a pretty different format than which all other web browsers interpret code.

However, I did like how IE was more refined/basic (so its probably slightly faster I suppose) and I liked the file download interface much more than firefox.

You have to learn how to read the numbers and not read the BS. Those are NEW vulnerabilities discovered, patched and unpatched but not TOTAL vulnerabilities. For the real scoop: Browser Security Summary
Yes. IE8 is 11 years behind web standards and can't handle simple every day things that ALL other browsers can; like XHTML, SVG, the DOM and so on. What a childs toy.

You don't know what you're talking about. FFs engine is 4X faster than IE8. You can't say "seconds faster" because you give no reference.
Get the stats from my sig and quit guessing. IE is the worst browser on the planet. Known, proven and verifiable.

If IE was so good, why is Microsoft thinking of discontinuing it? Why is Microsoft always trying to catch up with other browsers? Why has IE lost over 30% market share in 4 years?

No need to argue about Firefox or IE, it's all about Safari and Opera.

Firefox is always the best choice between IE and FF.. mainly the security features and not to mention the hundreds of thousands of great plugins for internet marketing and such. Way better overall, the speed difference probably won't help you any more, nowhere near :).

I think Google Chrome is faster than IE and FF. But minus point is that we can't add google toolbar and other addons to Chrome :(
