Why does google take soo long to index?

Why does Google take forecver to index a site when Yahoo and others can show results in a matter of weeks. On Yahoo, Altavista, MSN etc my site shows several hundred links but Google just a few, it seems Google enjoy their strangle hold on ecommerce and just like to make us sweat.

Googlebot comes to my new sites within days. Takes about a week to get in to the index though. Then months to rank for anything worthwhile.

Check your logs for googlebot activity. If your site has even a single good backlink then I am sure it will have visited your site and you may well be indexed but not for anything worth while yet.

Not all search engines works the same way. But the important thing to do is to create and submit a sitemap to google webmastertools. And I have found that if you put your website link as your signature, and when ever you make a few posts google crawls your link and your website will be indexed in no time.

You mention two different things... indexing and backlinks.

Don't hold your breath on Google showing your backlinks.. they just don't do it efficiently. I assume that is what your not seeing is your backlinks right?

Google won't ever show all of your backlinks. They show a small sample (and even in webmaster tools it's a larger "sample" and not a comprehensive list of what they see).

I won't say google is slow in indexing pages. It's possible that they don't revisit new sites. Remember page rank is also used to find the re-crawling frequency for pages.

All you need is links, the more links you get the faster you will be indexed, that simple.

Using Onlywire 2.0 and putting your links here at Digital Point in your signature will really help too.

Sometimes G takes longer...other times it's within hours...

You mean any site or just your site. Google likes to believe what they are doing is more relevant than the "other guys" and apparently the world is buying in as they have the largest search market share.

Why do people think that out of the billions of pages that need to be indexed by Google their pages are somehow a priority?

Make your site popular and relevant and it will be indexed more frequently.

I agree w/ the others...get a lot of backlinks - but on the other hand, don't overdo it. If one day your getting 10 backlinks and the next two months your getting 200/day - that will not look natural to Google and they could penalize you a little for it.

Google doesn't take long to index at all... in fact, you can get on it in 5 minutes if you know what you're doing. The lazy man's way would be to put it in a signature here. DP is crawled very often :)
