Why does Google list my homepage rather than the relevant post?

In this search, my home page ranks # 10. The quoted text comes from this post though. Why is Google listing my home page rather than the relevant post? I've seen this happen several times with this site, but haven't seen it with my other sites.

looks like your main page has more relevancy to the search term. Check your Title and meta tags

I'd be interested to know more on this, too. Google often brings up my blog's home page or my archive pages rather than the individual posts.

Well the title is dead on, though maybe I should remove the blog name. I'm also going to install a keywords plugin and see if that helps.

Good question. I had been wondering the same thing. Anyone knows?

I installed a keyword plugin a week or so ago. But now I've gone back and added a meta tag plugin and generated a Google sitemap. I checked rankings today and I was seeing the same thing (home page ranked rather than relevant post) in other search engines. I hope what I've done will help.

Link more to internal pages, your internal pages don't have enough strength to rank.

well your home page is the one with the most links. The individual post won't rank until it gets some deep links going to it.

The reason why this happens with blog is because the post was at one time on the home page and that's what google thought was a more relevant description than anything on the page.

the title will stay there for a little while and then it will be changed. If you analyze your text, almost all the words that Google uses in the SERPS description is still on the home page, just not in the correct order.

That my humble opinion but I may be wrong

The competition on that keyword is low. you should have number 1 in no time.

Yeah, I should start doing "Related posts" on each page.

I've recently added key posts in the sidebar; that should help.

Keep those ideas coming. I appreciate them.

I hope you're right. I certainly don't post frequently on this site, so maybe so. The posts do stay on the home page for an extended period. I just changed the options to show 6 posts on the homepage instead of 10.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
