Why does google list links from your own site as links to the site in their link count?

Some sites have all their google listed links as links from the same site!

Hey, what's wrong with your own links? Internal links are important too. Site navigation apart from anything else.

But let's assume you didn't have links. How would search engines know that your site is completely harmongonous and flowed easily from one topic to the next? Links are an indicator of credibility - if your internal links aren't top notch, forget about building backlinks for a sec and give your site and overhaul!

A link is a link, whether it be an internal or external link.
