why does google filter out content for china and the south east?

    someone told me the oher day that Google will not show up any searches for anything goverment related in china and the south east.

    is this true or is this guy telling porkies?

    As far as I know google left China because they forced to filter query results.

    I have no knowledge of it, but sounds legit. Google once removed important govt and army buildings from google earth and google maps on govt request.

    Never heard anything about the filters on the search engines but if there was a serious request for removal of any info from google by the country/government itself then I dont see a reason why google wont grant the request.

    I think its true for most of the counties & not only china and the south east
    infact, no country would be happy to see its confidential information publicly available on the WWW

    The majority of hackers and plagiarist come from there (and India). I wish they could find a way to block the entire country from the net and quit letting these countries that are not part of the DMCA have Adsense accounts.
    Plus, I heard a while back that Chinese government blocked Google or something. Don't know how true it is or if it's that way but might be part of the reason if it's true.
